Christa’s Year of Weekly Giveaways #46 – Spreading the Riley Blake Love

I am awed and humbled. My entry into the Riley Blake/Modern Quilt Guild challenge was  selected as one of ten finalists out of 390 stinkin’ entries!! The top 3 winners will be chosen next Monday and suffice it to say, I will be on pins and needles for the next several days.

Modern Quilt

Spiraling out of Control by Christa Watson
70″ x 70″

No matter how the competition turns out, I am extremely pleased and honored to have been a part of this challenge. This quilt pulled me out of my comfort zone and really drove home my desire to want to make more modern quilts.

MQGI have to give a special shout out to two of my friends whose quilts also made the finals. (It sort of feels like the Quilting Olympics around here!) Congrats to Melissa, Leanne, and the other 7 gals in the top 10. They are all so amazing!

Click here to see all of the finalists and be sure to join the Modern Quilt Guild if you haven’t already. Then you can see all of the outstanding entries on the guild’s member forum and get in on the next challenge!

Now onto this week’s giveaway:

I have a 10 yard bolt of Riley Blake fabric to give away. It’s called Shades from their Basics Collection in the Granite colorway. It’s a rich mottled gray fabric with just a hint of purple, and would be perfect for your next quilt (modern or not).

I bought it thinking I would use it on the back of my challenge entry, but ended up going with the dark grey solid that was part of the challenge bundle.

So I could do what any sane quilter would do and throw it in my stash where it would probably languish for years on end. But hopefully you guys know by now that I’m a bit of a minimalist and not always sane about these things.

I’d rather give it to one of you where I know it will be put to good use. You just have to pinky promise that it won’t languish in your stash either, ok?

To enter, leave any old comment you like below. You can even just say hi. :-) The giveaway will run through next Wednesday, February 26th, and it’s open to all.

Last Week’s Winner

Congratulations to Debbie D. who won a Moda Layer Cake! And thanks to all of you who enter each week. I just love reading your comments!

Congratulations ! Very exciting! Have just been given my first jelly roll ever and am going to make your jelly roll quilt. I feel a quilt addition coming on and need that backing fabric :). Thank you for the inspiration to this Scot in Sweden.

Your quilt is absolutely wonderful. Congratulations on making the top 10!!! I want to do an aqua and grey quilt and I think the granite would work well.

So sorry your quilt didn’t make the top 3 – but congrats on the Top 10!!! And if you really don’t want that fabric, I will give it a good home right here :)

Thanks for giving me the courage to pursue machine quilting. I just finished my 1st twin quilt and while it has it’s issues, I am very proud of it!

Hi, it’s my first time here! Love your site and I’m getting lots of ideas. I’m a newbie to quiltin and I just finished my first quilt top.

As it is 1:37 am in Oklahoma and officially Monday, I’m anxiously awaiting word of your top three placement. Taking a peek of the top ten, I rank yours #1 and Delores Hamilton #2 as my personal favorites. The fabrics in your quilt just pop and come alive.

  8. Debbie says:

Wow! I hope you make it to the top three, Christa! You deserve it. This grey would make a great background to a bunch of scrappy pinks. Good for a quilt for my granddaughter. :)

  9. Bri says:

This fabric would work well in my Tula pink City Sampler quilt I recently started. Congrats on your quilt. I’m looking forward to the next MQG challenge now that I am a member.

  10. Christy says:

Congratulations on making the top 10 Christa! Your quilt is fabulous!
I’ve got a Jelly Roll Race quilt on my To Do list. It’ll be mostly pinks with some gray and that Granite fabric would be great on the back.
