End of Year Fun

Just so you guys don’t think all we do around here is play with fabric (though we do that quite a lot), here are a few pictures of some family fun we had this week!

Wet N WildWe celebrated our end of the (homeschool) year by taking the kids to the new water park that literally opened up just down the road from us. I think the whole neighborhood bought season passes when we all realized it was coming!

WaterslideDoesn’t this look like a fun way to cool off in the heat this summer?

The kids also got to have a couple of year end performances. Our oldest son had a piano recital at a local music shop where he played a fast-paced rendition of Mozart’s Turkish March.

Piano RecitalOur middle son’s music teacher comes to our home for lessons so we put on our own recital just for him where he was able to show his stuff both on the piano…

PianoAnd on the drums!

DrumsHis favorite rock star is Weird Al who just happens to be coming to town for a concert this summer. Guess what our family outing will be then? The things we do for our kids! 🙂

Art ShowOur daughter loves all kind of art so she was able to share her talents at an art show curated by her art teacher.

Art Show
This piece above is my favorite because it reminds me of an artistic modern quilt.

So what do we have on the agenda this summer? Scout camp for the boys, a lot of sewing for the girls, and our annual relaxing beach trip. (One of my favorite pictures is of me reading about modern quilting on the beach last year!)

And maybe a new sewing machine for me if I can swing it. I test drove a new Bernina 710 the other day when I went in to have my machine serviced and I was salivating at the extra wide sewing space on their newer models!

Bernina Test DriveHow about you? What do you have going on?

I was looking at your photos of the DQN show, and would like some details on the pipe frames that were assembled to hold the quilts. Specifically what is the diameter of the pipe and are they schedule 40 PVC pipe? Thank you Margaret Jenson

I am new to your site but just had to chime in. I just purchased a Bernina 750 with stitch regulator can’t wait to play with it! However, that was on hold until I finished a quilt on had on my handy quilter frame. Now my I am spending time with my five little grandchildren who are visiting from out of state, so my machine can wait. Time is so precious and I love being with them.
Enjoy your summer and your family!

I’m just taking it easy this summer. I work part time and and crafting in the afternoon. I’m saving my money to buy a fancy sewing machine. I don’t know which brand to buy. I’m easily swayed by every model, so I don’t know what I’ll get.
I’ma new follower of your blog. It is so refreshing and fun.

    Thanks for sharing.

Just got back from my annual “shop hop” with 56 other women!! What a great time we all had. I slept all day yesterday so I lost that day. Hopefully today I will get back in the groove. Would you believe our total tally for the 3 days of 54 women(shop owner and bus driver don’t shop) was $22,000.00!!!!!! Wow!!!!!

Oh so the 710 has the wider area?? Quilting some large quilts this summer, maybe a 710 would be more affordable than a longarm 😉 Let us know if you get it.
    Fun stuff with the kiddos!

You should go for the new Bernina. I got the 710 in March and I love it so much (I was upgrading from a mid-80’s singer). If you have any questions about it (what I love/hate) just let me know.

I am sure that season pass will be well worth the money. It is so nice to be able to give the kids the extras when you homeschool. Mine took canoe lessons and were in competitions. They don’t canoe now, but they know how!

Did you take that Bernina home?

I’m sure your kids will be spending a lot of time there this summer. We have a few trips planned this summer and I can’t wait. the 1st one is coming soon. It has been a while since we’ve gotten away. My sister is drooling over those newer machines too.
