Have I told you guys lately how much I love teaching machine quilting?? It’s so fun to teach, both locally and nationally and see that spark of excitement when one of my students “gets” it! 🙂
Last month, I taught my full-day Modern Machine Quilting class and I’m off to teach it again this week at the National Quilting Association’s annual show in Little Rock, Arkansas. I’m so excited! I’ll be teaching my Modern Logs class, there too. It’s been super fun to teach the same class to different audiences. So far, no one has ever made the exact same quilt!
Here are a few pictures from my Modern Machine Quilting class that I taught at The Christmas Goose in Las Vegas last month. (Not to worry for those locals who are on the waiting list – I’ll be repeating the class again in October.)
It’s amazing the textures and designs you can create with just a walking foot and some simple free-motion quilting! I organize the class similarly to how my first book, Machine Quilting With Style has been written: students start off getting comfortable quilting with their walking foot, then they move onto several of my free-motion favorites.
Machine quilting truly is my favorite part of the quilt-making process. What’s yours?

My favorite is the binding. I’m not good enough to enjoy the quilting yet. Wish you would do a class on craftsy so I could learn more.

Looks like a great class! My favorite parts of quilting are designing the quilt, quilting the quilt, and hand sewing the binding on.
Piecing is definitely my favorite. I find it very relaxing. I want to like the machine quilting process, but it does make me a bit nervous. I definitely have some anxiety when it comes to free motion. I have finally decided that I’m creative but not artistic!! Drawing has never been my thing. I sure wish it was. I am definitely willing to try and know that with practice I can become better at free motion, though will probably always stick to doing more with the walking foot. I’m new to quilting in the last three years and find it a wonderful creative outlet. Learning to quilt has become one of life’s delights! I’m looking forward to learning from you in Little Rock! (and hopefully becoming less anxious about this piece of the puzzle in quilting.)
Yes, those “light bulb” moments that a student/attendee experiences are wonderful to see! I have discovered that there are more who go away with a new appreciation for the art of quilting than those who will devote serious time to it in the future. In my area, job security for contract quilters/artists is not in jeopardy!
Just wanted to tell you that your blog and your enthusiasm are very inspiring.
