Here’s some great news for those of you who have been patiently waiting for the pattern for my quilt Spiraling Out of Control. It’s now available in the current issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine (Fall, 2015).
Here’s a quick back-story of the quilt. I originally made it for the MQG/Riley Blake fabric challenge in 2014 and was thrilled when it was selected as one of the 10 finalists out of hundreds of quilts. It then went on to hang at AQS in July 2014 nd then at QuiltCon in 2015 where it caught the eye of the Modern Quilts Unlimited editors. (In fact, they also fell in love with another of my quilts at the show which will be patterned in a future issue, so be sure to subscribe!)
I used EQ7 to design Spiraling Out of Control.
Jason jokingly refers to this issue as “my” issue because in addition to featuring the pattern, they’ve also given my book a nice review, and I’m in an EQ ad, too!
Seeing reviews of my book in national magazines makes me giddy!
Spiraling Out of Control is in the Fall Issue of MQU
I’m piecing a hunter’s star quilt, basting a Christmas quilt, and making nine matching dresses for cousins to wear in Thanksgiving Day.

I am currently trying to finish quilts for my immediate family before Christmas. Then the new year will be my time to try new things and expand my skills!
I have several in the Actively Working stage: a Christmas log cabin quilt, a Hunter’s Star quilt, and Wild Olive’s 50 States embroidered quilt design.
Working on two charity quilts, destined for two little boys.
Congratulations Christa – it is so nice to hear about your accomplishments. I’m working on Christmas gifts at the moment, with 5 quilts in the wings ready to quilt in the new year. I was so excited when your “Machine Quilting with Style” book arrived to give me inspiration. I couldn’t get it on release day as I had to wait for it to cross the border to Canada, but well worth the wait. EVERYONE should go buy a copy!!!
About to begin working on two quilts for babies due soon and one for my almost 12 year old granddaughter. We just chose the pattern she wants.
I’m working on quilts for my dad for Christmas and for my daughter ‘s wedding this summer.
Vera
am working on my an I Spy quilt for my grandson….for christmas???
I usually like to start and finish a quilt before I begin another. However, in the past two years, I have begun too many quilts without finishing them and have been feeling overwhelmed instead of joyful. I made a deal with myself to pick one quilt to work on a little bit each day until it is finished. This simple decision has brought joy back into my sewing.
I am working on two quilts right now. My aunt who recently died embroidered beautiful butterfly blocks for a quilt. I have put it together, got it hand quilted (her request), bound and now I need to get a label on it.
The other quilt is a red and green Christmas quilt for one of my daughters-in-law.
Then I have to start a baby quilt for our neighbor’s new baby due in February.
Love your designs and quilting, Carol
I’m working on quilting my daughter’s quilt with the all over random lines.

Too many, that’s for sure! I’ve got a Christmas quilt that I know won’t be ready for this season, a mini quilt as part of a Flickr challenge, another paper-pieced lap quilt, a curved-piece quilt, a Halloween banner (yeah…I put that one away half-finished…)…Way too many! And they’re all really in the mid-point where it’s hard to keep motivated. *sigh* I need to bust out the mini so I can feel like I can actually finish something…
I’m working on arranging my new sewing area – looking forward to finding and finishing a few charity quilts that i started a while back! Thanks for the chance!
I have finished 4 quilts for Christmas presents, with 2 to go! My current project is a memory quilt for cross-country friends featuring pictures of the 4 of us on our visits to each other’s homes. It brings back such wonderful memories just to work on the quilt!

currently working on a pinwheels on point with rail fence pattern quilt for a Christmas gift, It is queen size, I am hoping to have it done in time.
I am working on an I Spy quilt for our youngest grandchild who is seven. The quilt is twin sized. The top is made up of 2 inch hexies and triangles which are hand sewn using EPP. I chose that method because this past summer we drove over 10,000 miles visiting friends and family from the east coast to the west coast giving me lots of time for handwork. Yesterday my husband helped me pen baste the sandwich. Today I want to cut the binding. The quilting will be done on my domestic machine.
I’m finishing a herringbone pattern quilt by doing spiral quilting as shown in your book, Machine Quilting with Style. Then I can get back to working on the paper piecing quilt I started with your quilt-a-long last May. I would love to have the copy of Modern Quilts Unlimited.
I am currently cutting out the fabrics to put together a pattern called “urban legend”. I spent almost a year collecting the fabrics I wanted to use for it. Not generally a type of pattern I work with so will see how it goes.
Congrats on being the feature for the magazine! I am quilting my double sided Tula Pink City Sampler, I’m machine sewing Elizabeth Hartman’s Patchwork City Sampler and I’m hand sewing La Passacaglia. Thanks for the change! I’d love to try your pattern!

Congratulations, Christa, on ALL your achievements! You are one BUSY lady! I’ve got a few sewing projects to finish for Christmas gifts, and one quilt. But, there are a few quilt projects waiting patiently for their chance to get quilted, and others waiting for piecing and quilting…I’d better get busy! 🙂
