I’m excited to continue my Fabric Friday series, sharing my love of fabric with you every other week! Today I’d like to put a little spotlight on Tonga Treats – precut batiks from Timeless Treasures. I love the convenience of precuts, since most of the cutting is already done for you!
Tonga Treats come in a nice variety of precut sizes including 5×5 charm packs, which they call “Mini’s,” the standard 2.5 inch wide jelly rolls known as “Strips,” 10 inch layer cakes called “Squares,” and popular 12 piece fat quarter bundles which are simply known as “Quarters.”
The one precut I haven’t carried yet is their “6-pack” – 6″ x 44″ strips of 20 different batik fabrics. Has anyone tried these out? If so, what do you think of them? I’m considering adding them to my store if they will sell.
While some people wouldn’t consider batiks when making modern quilts, I personally think they have a lot of potential to create knockout quilts. The newer Tonga Treat Packs come with a free pattern, which I think is smart of the company to include.

Sometimes it’s hard to think of what to do with these yummy treats so it’s nice to get those creative juices flowing and whip up a quick and easy quilt without too much planning.
Timeless Treasures does a great job naming their collections with descriptive titles like Lace, Sugar, Sea Glass, Rockport, Mocha Kiss, and more. Which color scheme is your favorite?

I try to use at least three batiks in every quilt I make, one in each color grouping. They add depth and the colors offered are just beautiful. Looking forward to working with the Tonga line again.
I like the sugar and lace best, but I really love them all!

I love the Mocha Kiss quilt I made from a six pack…it is quite delicious and was so very quick to stitch up using the “All Lined Up” pattern on Timeless Treasures website. Now trying to decide what to make with the Sea Glass pack. ……Must locate a Lace pack…….!

I love the idea of the “6-pack” as it is more versatile and the really opens the pattern options. Love love love batiks! Batiks are a dream to work with and give depth and movement to any project. Thank you for informing us of the new option.
I gave my daughter charms, strips and yardage of rainbow colors for Christmas. She loves batiks and I am gradually becoming addicted too. I use a six inch border on throws to add to their size and I think they would sell well.

I’ve picked up a couple of tonga treats, but so far have been satisfied just looking at them and dreaming.
Haven’t tried them yet but the “Sea Glass” colors sounds just yummy! Could always find a little project to start on….hummmmm!
I haven’t purchased the precuts but much of the yardage in my “Stained Glass” quilt was from this line. Love the dimension it brings!!!! Hugs………………..
I haven’t used the precuts from Tonga but I think that the colors in Mocha Kiss are calling my name.
Love tonga treats. I have used the 21/2 in strips several times and the charm packs for quilts and art. See glass is my favourite colour group but love working with them all. Even have given them as gifts to a dear quilter friend.
I have been eyeing Mocha Kiss for a while. It just looks soooo yummy! And lace would look great in the log cabin quilt on my bucket list.

All batiks are beautiful to me, but I love the blues/turquoises. Plus anything pink .

Love all the colors! I think that for the 6-pack to be a good sellers, there need to be many patterns showing how using a 6″ wide piece of material works – especially if it can be strip pieced and cut apart. I don’t think I would be all that interested in it if I just have to cut all the pieces apart. I wonder why they went with 6″??
I love tonga treats, because I love batiks. I use batiks with everything, practically. I intermix them with other fabrics willy-nilly. I guess about the only thing I haven’t used them with is civil war repros, but that doesn’t mean I won’t if I have the right ones. I don’t put them off in a class by themselves, because they add to everything! So, yes, I don’t see any reason not to use them in “modern” quilts. And I like the six packs, too. All fabrics are getting so expensive. Really, the dollar is worth less, so it takes more of them, but it feels like the cost of fabric is going up, like it seems the sun is rising when really we’re whirling around in our little circles. =)
What great colors. The Tonga stack reminds me of raspberries and chocolate. The other pastel type shades are so beautifully presented I couldn’t bear to open them and mess it up.
Love Tonga Treats..fave is all the colors shown in the shutter pattern pic. The seeets are great.for modern baby quilts.
My SOAPBOX!! I know and understand the process of mkaing some fabric is expensive because it is so labor intensive but just once I would love to find a quilt shop that would make it a practice to pick one fabric collection or maybe a kit and feature it that item at a low coast for all of the poor quilters like me that have to make do with cheaper knock knock off

Always good to see other ways fabric manufacturers entice us with their beautiful offerings. I saw a lot of these at Road, and one of my buddies picked up a couple of them.
