It is with great pleasure that I get to share a new book I just came across. It’s called Contain It! English Paper Pieced Accessories by mother & daughter team Linda and Laura Chaney from Prairie Sewn Studios. First I’ll tell you about it, and then give you a chance to win your own copy!
Now, usually I don’t make 3-D items, but several containers in this fascinating book definitely have me tempted to make one! In reality, I will probably choose one or two and have my mom make them for me – she loves this type of sewing and there are some really great containers in here!

The projects are arranged in order of difficulty including: flatwork practice projects like mug rugs and table mats, cube containers, concave & convex containers, scalloped bowls, heart containers & boxes, star containers and boxes.

Linda and Laura are very thorough in their directions and each of the projects includes full sized templates. There’s also a great section in the front of the book that goes over suggested fabrics and needed supplies to successfully make the containers in the book. The containers can be sewn by hand or machine and layout/assembly diagrams (called an “octopus”) are given for each project.

Yes, I made a hexagonal container several years ago. I loved the pattern and the idea, but was disappointed at the lack of sturdiness to my finished item. I hope this book has some information about construction that will help me make sturdier containers. Thanks for sharing this book!

I have not made any quilted containers before. While I have thought about it on more than one occasion, I really get nervous and tripped up when it comes to the stabilizers or the extra things people use to make them firm. There are so many different products!

I have made small covered boxes and they came out great. It takes practice to get them just right and the end results are worth the effort. I would love the book to be inspired to try more shapes. It’s been a long time and would be back to a learning curve with these beauties.
I made quilted boxes for my wedding party 25 years ago when I got married. Haven’t done it since…must be time to do it again!
I made a set of nesting soft quilted boxes a few years ago as a Secret Santa gift…but never a rigid container like those in the book. I just LOVE that black & white one!!!

Last year for Christmas gifts I made round containers that used plastic tubing to give it strength. It was a bit of a challenge but still fun. I for sure would make more containers.

Yes! I made a big fabric box for my small scraps using 12 inches orphan blocks that I couldn’t use for any other project! The box turned out great, and it’s just the perfect decoration for my sewing space! thanks for the chance!!
Don’t know what year but a book about fabric bowls was very popular. I think the same person did a book on fabric boxes. I did both, obsessively, for about a month. They are very gratifying to make.
I have been making scrap boxes from the book Sunday morning quilts, but this is the first time I have seen these. They are lovely! all of them. I would be curious to try to make one.

Yes I have made a quilter container………car organizer for my 2grandsons to keep in the backseat of moms car. Plus I have recently made these small fabric boxes that I have away filled with candy at a retreat I go to on a regular basis. So with that said, would be so fun to win this book.

No, I have not made a container before unless you count a bag which I have made. But I absolutely am intrigued by the star shaped containers and possibly could take on the heart shaped ones also. I’m really excited about the chance to win this book. Thanks Christa!!

I made some fabric bowls years ago, and recently learned how to make coiled fabric bowls using clothesline–great fun, and a fab way to use up scraps. But I never thought of making containers with EPP and would love to learn how to do that. Thanks for the great giveaway!
