I’ve been having a great time recoloring all of the quilts from my book Machine Quilting with Style. I hope you’ve been getting inspired by all the possibilities. π
This week, I’m sharing about Broken V. First, here’s the original – a simple modern design made from half-square triangles. I love how the solids really show off the machine quilting, but it would look just as fabulous in prints!

Broken V Re-imagined
First of all, I thought it would be fun to change out the background to a dark navy while still pairing it up with bold solids:

I design all of my quilts using Electric Quilt Software.
For the next re-coloring, I thought it would be fun to use Cozy Christmas prints from Lori Holt for a completely different look, perfect for the upcoming holidays:

Celebration Giveaway
Each week along with sharing new versions of each quilt, I’m also hostingΒ a giveaway. It’s like a 12 week-long birthday party, celebrating the joy that writing this book has brought into my life after just a year in print!
Last time Jean K. and Lillian K each won a four pack of my quilt patterns. This week I’m going to send one lucky winner a copy of The Quilter’s Planner, produced by my friend Stephanie Palmer of Late Night Quilter.

I was excited to have my Feathered Chevrons quilt included along with 13 other fabulous projects shown below.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Stephanie is also throwing in a fun bundle of Blueberry Park fabric for another lucky winner.

How to Enter
Just leave a comment below letting me know how you usually plan out your days. Do you use a paper planner? A digital tool? The back of your hand??? π
I’ll pick 2 US winners next Friday when I reveal the next recolored quilt!

I am a list maker. I even make a list for my quilting Que. I use paper. I get frustrated when I lose my list so then start another. I need to get a planner where It’s all together.
My days are pretty much planned on my wall calendar. If I need more detail, I use a sticky note that gets removed when the project is finished.
I do make lists and draw out designs and put them in a notebook. I want to learn more about eq7 because I work with it and learn something but then it is a long time before getting back to it and I have forgotten how I have done things. I want 2017 to be a bit more organized.
My primary planner is a paper planner. When I’m on the go I usually just add events to my phone calendar and then transfer everything to my main planner in the evenings. that does create a little bit of duplication, but it makes me take time to review my day and prepare ahead for the next day.
I’m definitely a write-not-type person, but most often I do my planning on a whiteboard on my fridge.
I have recurring events on my phone calendar. And birthdays/anniversaries etc there too. I have started using a leuchtturm 1917 as a bullet journal but I have trouble keeping it up. So most of my notes are on little pieces of paper all over. I would love the chance to win a Quilters Planner.
Being retired, I frankly don’t plan my days too tightly. I like to let the musses (is that a word?) guide me and when I get started, food, cleaning, laundrey etc. is out the window. Hubby has to take over. I am blessed that he does! WIth 12 grand children, the possibilities are endless; and, as they live away from our area, I am striving to leave them with memories and coverings.
I’ve been using a paper planner for the past year.
I love seeing the different color ways for the same quilt pattern. I especially like the navy background with the brights, perfect for a quilt that gets lots of use!
I generally use my digital calendar to plan my days, but am now starting to use an old fashioned notebook to record the quilts I want to make, since the list keeps growing! Thank you for recoloring your quilt patterns and sharing the results with us. It’s making me look at them in new ways too, and now my quilts-to-make list is growing even longer!
I make lists, ignore the lists, make new lists. For dates and appointments I still use a good old desk calendar. Works for me!
I always use paper. I have to write it out and I also like marking things done off.
I am a list maker. I just have trouble keeping track of my lists. The planner would get me going in the right direction.
I have a general idea and then I hope I don’t forget anything?!
Since I am retired I don’t really plan out my days but perhaps if I had a planner that I could wrtie down what I wish to accomplish in my sewing room I would get more done.
My customer quilts are on a list in a spiral notebook by month. My projects (rarely touched!) are on a post-it note app on my phone. But if I piece or quilt for me, it is whatever hits me! π Glad to have found your site!
I use a daily/weekly planner to plan my days. Without it I would be lost! I would love to win her new planner!
My day is haphazardly planned. If I have appts. I usually run errands in the area. I sew every Tuesday and sometimes on Thursday…and any other day I can get back into the sewing room.
I plan out my day in my head. First is usually household chores and things to do around home. Then whatever machine project I’m working on comes next and I sew until dinner time. The amount of time varies. After dinner, I do embroidery while watching tv. That’s about it. I am working on making a Pregnancy pillow for my daughter, who’s expecting her first child in May 2017. My hand projects include 12 plastic mesh ornaments for and ornament exchange(goal to do one a day to have them completed on time. Lastly, I’m on Block 16 of Moda’s Bee-utiful QAL. Happy Holidays.
I use a paper planner and pencil as it seems my best made plans don’t always happen as planned! I use the planner for everything – quilting business and personal family appointments and would never get anything done without it. Moved from a purse size to an 8″x 9″ for more room to write. Best part of planning is being able to cross off things I actually get done!
Christa, it is funny this was your subject. I just finished talking about you to my husband about all that is happening for you and how organized you have to be to be so accomplished. You are an inspiration in my 2017 business plan. Thank you for all you do!
Making the transition to retirement has left me a little disorganized! Working provided structure that I no longer have and my old organization system is no longer sufficient. This planner seems like the perfect addition to my smart phone calendar! Thanks for the giveaway!
Most of my planning happens in bed while I am waking up and getting motivated to get out of bed. Mostly I keep my plans in my head during the day but if it is something really important I will write them down on a piece of paper, very low tech. Then there are days that I plan on doing certain things but get side tracked wanting to play with fabric!! Hee hee!
I use a paper planner and add reminders to my phone calendar. I love paper so much more than the phone. π
I use a notebook and write down the days I plan to quilt, and underneath each date, I wrote down the broken-down tasks (ex. HST (10)) with boxes so that I can check them off as I complete them! Would love to fine tune my process!
I use a Franklin Planner for work/personal and now I can use my Quilt Planner for the rest of my time. I have my mini in my purse and use it constantly. I’ve already got items beginning to fill my 2017 planner. It’s going to be an incredible year!
I usually put a sticky note on the fabric and what I’m going to make. I use sticky notes everywhere
I usually use a sticky note. I do this every time I have a project in mind, I have a tablet that I use when I start the quilt and a piece of fabric taped to the page.
I create in my mind before I go to sleep. I wake up ready to put my thoughts in action. I have just moved and redesigned my sewing room and can’t wait to get into that room to create gifts.
I use a post it with a to do list. I have downloaded planning apps, but have not transitioned yet.
I use a combination of a paper planner and my phone’s calendar.
I have 4 paper planners plus the one on my phone. I also write out a daily to do list that I almost never follow.
I use sticky notes placed on a calendar that resides on my kitchen table, as well as a small pocket calendar I keep in my purse to help when scheduling medical appointments, etc. Really like the looks of The Quilter’s Planner. Have been enjoying your re-imaging of your quilts.
I use a paper planner. I like seeing my week and notes in one spread, actual size. π Thanks for yet another great giveaway opportunity!
I am a sticky note person and I usually can’t find the note I need at the time I think I need it! I do have a colorful room with all the colors of the rainbow in sticky notes! A planner might help.
I use a monthly calendar and the notes on my iPhone. I usually forget to transfer the notes to the calendar so some things do get missed.
i love seeing quilts change with different fabrics!!!!
I Just keep everything in my mind and then forget what I was doing.
I don’t overly plan my day. However, I use a paper calendar which sits on the counter because it’s more of a family calendar that everyone can use to see what’s going on. I do need to develop a better ‘To Do List’ system for my personal goals. sjvonfumetti at yahoo dot com
Amy planning is either in my head or notes and lists on notepads. I have started using my phones calendar as I am getting to retirement age. Drhodes9@cox.net
I have tried them all, but as the saying goes, “If you want to make God laugh, tell Him your plans.”
I have previously used a Week at a glance calendar but have recently moved to using my phone calendar as well as the “notes” section of the phone. Also recently moved from a huge dry erase board on the kitchen wall to a much, much smaller dry erase board on a different wall of the kitchen.
My list is usually on the week at a glance calendar, but also on stick notes I can put on the dashboard of the car…the cutting table has the priority projects a few at a time…this seems to work well.
I have a general plan in my head and a scrap of paper nearby with notes jotted – but what a joy it would be to become more organinzed in my planning.
I have master lists on long paper. I make a daily shorter list.
I have huge lists on multiple pieces of paper. I make a daily list on the back of an envelope to recycle. Thanks for the ideas!
I try to use a paper planner (as consistently as one with two under two can manage), and I’m in the market for a new one for next year! ππ½
I use my phone calendar and a paper calendar. I write myself lists as well and check things off as they are completed.
I use Outlook for my scheduled appointments at work but for home I use a handwritten list. It helps me separate work from my home life.
I usually have little scraps of paper with lists piled on my desk. In the hopes of having a more productive 2017 I have ordered and received the 2017 Quilter’s Planner. I love it and can’t wait to start using it!
I usually write my to do lists on 4×6 notecards.
