Enter Your Modern Quilts into NQA’s 46th Annual Show

Ok guys and gals – you are going to see me blogging a lot about the National Quilting Association as I gear up to do a lot of fun things with them over the next year!

Web Banner2First up on the agenda – enter your quilts into their show! Of course they have all of the regular show categories, but I am so stoked that they also have a Modern category. And you know what’s even more exciting? It’s not a juried show which means that you are automatically guaranteed to get in! But here’s the catch – the show is limited to the first 400 entries! Wouldn’t it be amazing if so many of them are modern?

The deadline for entries is April 1st, 2015 and NQA members get a discounted entry so please become a member if you haven’t already! I will be going to the show myself (more about that later) – and I hope to see your quilts!

Christa’s Soapbox – Why You Should Become a Member of the National Quilting Association

I’m super excited to announce that starting this winter, I will be writing a regular column for the Quilting Quarterly, the official magazine of the National Quilting Association. I invite you to become a member of this tremendous organization, not only to read my articles, but to glean insights and further participate in this wonderful community.

20150615_naqMy ongoing column will be entitled “Quilt as Desired” and in it I will share my tips, tricks and ideas on how you can quilt your own quilts! On occasion, I will even include a pattern in the magazine showing how to put my ideas into practice.

I highly recommend becoming involved as many quilting groups as you can. From my local guild to national organizations, it’s a great way to enjoy more of what the quilting community has to offer.

Jacquie Gering

Meeting Jacquie Gering at QuiltCon for the first time in 2013

I’ve been a member of NQA off and on over the years and renewed my membership last year after returning home from QuiltCon. I had just met Jacquie Gering and she was able to use a picture of mine and a quote about the show in her ongoing NQA series, “Modern Moments.” It’s by far one of my favorite columns in the magazine and I love how NQA embraces all walks of quilters, no matter their style!

I was further pleased when a couple of NQA certified judges agreed to sit on our Modern Quilt Guild judging committee to provide recommendations on how to make the competition portion of QuiltCon a better experience for everyone. ๐Ÿ™‚

My first article and pattern will be in the winter issue coming out this December, so be sure to join NQA so you don’t miss a thing!

Fun Features – Sew Mama Sew, NQA, American Patchwork & Quilting Radio

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks as I’ve been preparing not only more quilts for publication and more samples for teaching, but I’ve been invited to share a little bit more about myself and my quilts in a few different places. Here’s a list of what’s currently happening along with what’s coming up. ๐Ÿ™‚

This week my Modern Logs quilt was featured on Sew Mama Sew as part of their month-long series, “My Favorite Quilt” curated by Jessica Skultety from Quilty Habit. And yes, for those of you who asked, I do have the pattern available here.

patternModern Logs is now available as a PDF pattern through my Craftsy store.

Jessica asked me a series of really thought-provoking questions about my quilt which was fun to think about and answer. Plus she wrote a really nice intro which made me blush (thank goodness you can’t see that online)! My favorite part of the whole series, in addition to the fabulous quilts that are being shared, is the chance for you to participate!

Sew Mama Sew is running a month-long linkup where you can share your favorite quilts, too! Just write a new blog post and answer the same set of questions I did, thenย click here and scroll to the end of the page to add your link. There’s even a giveaway as part of the series, so how cool is that?

20150615_naqI’m also in the member spotlight on the National Quilting Association’s website for the entire month of June. It includes a little background of my quilting, a picture (that’s a little too large for my tastes, LOL!!), as well as 17 pictures of my recent finishes, all done in the last couple of years. So I invite you to pop on over and take a look. Most of you who have followed me for awhile may have seen all or most of the quilts already, but it was fun to share them all in one place. ๐Ÿ™‚

And finally – pinch me please – the always lovely and talented Pat Sloan has invited me to be a guest on her podcast, American Patchwork and Quilting Radio, next Monday June 23rd at 4PM Eastern Time. We will be chatting about quilting (of course) and go a little more indepth into how my own quilting has changed over time. It should be fun!

Click here to listen to the podcast live as it happens.

You can also listen to past episodes of the show or subscribe via Itunes.
