These classes are suitable for teaching at quilt shops. Classes will be taught from my books and each student is required to purchase a copy for class. Supply lists will include the tools and supplies I recommend for machine quilting success. Shops are encouraged to offer their students a kit consisting of pre-basted batting samples, needles, and thread.
Introduction to Modern Machine Quilting – 6 Hours
Required book: Machine Quilting with Style
Take your quilts to the next level by adding depth and dimension to your designs. The secret is learning to let go of perfection by creating asymmetrical textures that require little to no marking of the quilt. Become a confident quilter by learning free-motion quilting and walking foot techniques from Machine Quilting with Style.
Practice on pre-basted fabric and batting samples, or use up leftover quilt blocks. Class will also include a short discussion on basting along with Christa’s favorite tools and supplies for machine quilting success. Students are welcome to bring in their quilt tops for suggestions on how to quilt it. Students should be comfortable with their machines and know how to switch out their feet. Walking foot (or integrated dual feed) and free-motion foot required.
Ultimate Free-Motion Fillers – 3 Hours
Required book: The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting
Learn 12 fun fillers in just 3 hours! This class will walk you through a dozen of the free-motion motifs from The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting. This will be a fast paced class, so students should be comfortable working with their machines and have some experience with machine quilting.
Secrets For Successful Machine Quilting – 6 Hours
Required Book – Piece and Quilt with Precuts
Unleash the power of your domestic machine by utilizing both free-motion and walking foot techniques from Christa Watson’s new book, Piece and Quilt with Precuts. Add depth and dimension to your quilts by learning 18 different motifs that require no marking of the quilt! Students will practice on pre-basted fabric and batting samples, or use leftover quilt blocks to combine unique designs in fun new ways. Students should be comfortable with their machines and know how to switch out their feet.
