First of all, thanks to all of your sweet comments from last week’s giveaway. I love how generous everyone was by wanting to share the love rather than win the prize all for themselves. You guys really encourage me each and every day! Scroll down to the end for the winners.
And now for this week’s giveaway: one lucky reader will win a Moda Bella Solids Layer Cake in the Snow Color. I recently had to “borrow” one square of this layer cake. Since I couldn’t sell it with a missing piece, I decided it would be fun to give the remaining 41 squares to one of you!
So here are the details:
- Leave your comment below telling me what you like to do with Layer Cakes
- Giveaway is open to everyone near and far
- Winner will be chosen at random next Wednesday, February 19th at Noon PST
- Their name will be listed the following day along with the next giveaway
Last Week’s winners:
Congratulations to Becky R. and Avon B. who each won a charm pack.
Please visit my precut store to see all I have to offer. I really appreciate your support!

I like cutting them into squares for a nine-patch square. Sometimes I’ll do wonky ones. Thanks!
I’ve never used a layer cake!!
I love to use them in my applique projects. It’s the perfect way to have several different color options.
Sometimes I make a whole quilt with one layer cake, but more often I use bits of them in other quilts.
I would pair it with other print layer cakes to make half square triangles. I love them!
I would make a quilt that uses HST with the layer cake, or maybe the Drunkards Path pattern. Haven’t done one before, since I’m pretty new to quilting.
I would pair the solid with another darker print and make a big star quilt. Thanks for your encouraging blog. I am going to learn to FMQ, it’s my goal for this year!
I am making a quilt by Thimbleblossoms and really could use this pack even with one less square. Thanks for the chance to win.
Oh yeah! I could use this! In fact, you could split it into two and give one half to me and the other half to someone else and I’d still be happy because that would be 20 squares of this fabric! 🙂 Thank you for a chance to win.
I like using charms for back grounds, and can always use more white in any shape.
I would use it to make a hounds tooth quilt.
I cut them into charm squares or 2 1/2″ squares to create a patchwork quilt. Layer cakes are so versatile, there are so many possibilities.
I use solid layer cakes to cut in half and make quilt labels.
I love to use precuts when making charity quilts. Makes it faster. I’d use a layer cake to make a pinwheel quilt
It would probably end up in a baby quilt I’m working on ideas for right now.
Later cakes make for great simple patchwork quilts… my favorite!
I would like to combine the Snow squares with some bright prints to make a baby quilt
I love using layer cakes, although I have never used a solid layer cake yet. I love how versatile they are, the possibilities are endless!!
Haven’t cut into my layer cakes yet. I am currently hoarding them. But I have seen some pretty need tutorials for quilts that I would like to do.
I think I would use the layer cake to do an hourglass quilt. My first quilt was a charm pack hourglass quilt and it was fun. I’d like to try that on a larger scale with a layer cake and make a quilt for my godmother.
I especially love the kona snow for half square triangles with other colorful fabrics. I’m busy making simple baby quilts as a volunteer project with my church and these would be very useful.
I have a couple of charm packs that I would pair up with this and make a quilt.
I’ve never bought a layer cake, so it would be fun to create something new with a packet. I got the book you recommended about FMQ and am learning–would be fun to have some beautiful fabrics to piece and then quilt with my new skills.
I haven’t tried a layer cake yet! So I guess I don’t really know what I’ll do with it just yet but excited to try! I always finding myself wishing I had some white fabric but then always forget and just buy new prints when I’m at the quilt shop!
I’ve never had a layer cake, but if would cut them to use in a Tula Pink patterned quilt.
First of all thank you for the give away. I just found the world of Layer Cakes use from Missouri Quilts and would like to use it for one of my quilts.
The only Layer Cake I’ve had I used in a quilt I made for my Mom for her 90th birthday. I’m now planning a quilt for my daughter and would so love to win your Snow Layer Cake. Thank you for the chance!
Layer cake solid: stack each piece with a layer cake print cut through both at random, shuffle & join to make a new block!
I have a lovely collection of Australian fabrics that I’ve been hoarding for years — I’d use the layer cake fabrics to finally put together my Australian quilt, and ‘tell’ my stories. I was an exchange student years ago, and my host family became my real family in all the ways that really matter. I have yet to make a quilt for myself (and I’ve been quilting for nearly 40 years now), so maybe this would be MY first quilt! All my quilts (at least a couple hundred) have always been given away to babies, children and others.
The only precuts I have used so far are Charm Packs-however, If i won a layer cake-I would frost it!
Snow solids are a basic for me. Especially precuts. I think layer cakes are the most versatile. Need one for a log cabin quilt I am starting soon. Cindy
What I like to do with layer cakes is eat them 🙂 This one, however, would have too much fiber in it 😉 I have never made anything with this kind of layer cake, although I have seen several projects that call for one that I would like to try. Or I might use it as a neutral in another quilt. I love solids as there is so much you can do with them.
Bella snow is one of my go-to basics. I recently got a layer cake of Maison Bleu. I would use it with that to try some stars in a quilt for my daughter.
I love to use them for patchwork, and creating space and HST for wonky stars
A black and white triangle quilt is in my list. The layer cake would be perfect for that.
Thanks for the opportunity.
Layer Cakes are so versatile. I like to cut them apart, shuffle and sew back together to make unique blocks. The solids would come in handy.
I would make a quilt. I would pair it up with another layer cake
I love using off whites with whites and creams as solids in a single quilt. Gives great interest and flavor!
I haven’t had a chance to use layer cakes, but am excited to try it. I think I’d like to try another Cathedral Windows with a layer cake.
I would add these to some 1930’s solids I already have and start a soft quilt!
I would pair this up with another layer cake and make a quilt (whatever size it might turn out to be) that I already have the perfect layer cake to go with a Bella Solids – Snow
This snow layer cake would be perfect to work with all the scraps I am sewing up. Not sure of the pattern but it would sure be fun to get creative with it! Thanks for the chance! And congrats to last week’s winners!
I love solids. My walls need some updating so I would probably use most of them as is and appliqued something on top – circles perhaps or something graphic in blacks and grays.
I recently bought a new quilting magazine that features patterns with layer cakes. The snow white would go with anything else I choose, so I would love to win it. Thanks for the chance.
I haven’t used a layer cake yet, but I have a couple of patterns that would work nicely. Good luck to all!
I haven’t used a layer cake before, even though I have a couple of them. I’m interested in starting some mini quilts and I bet layer cakes would be perfect!
I’ve never used a layer cake, but this would give me a reason to! Thanks for the chance.
I’ve never used a layer cake before. I’m sure I could figure out something fun with it.
Layer cakes make fast quilts, and allow favorite fabrics to be featured without too much chopping up!
They are nice for an easy project.
