First of all, thanks to all of your sweet comments from last week’s giveaway. I love how generous everyone was by wanting to share the love rather than win the prize all for themselves. You guys really encourage me each and every day! Scroll down to the end for the winners.
And now for this week’s giveaway: one lucky reader will win a Moda Bella Solids Layer Cake in the Snow Color. I recently had to “borrow” one square of this layer cake. Since I couldn’t sell it with a missing piece, I decided it would be fun to give the remaining 41 squares to one of you!
So here are the details:
- Leave your comment below telling me what you like to do with Layer Cakes
- Giveaway is open to everyone near and far
- Winner will be chosen at random next Wednesday, February 19th at Noon PST
- Their name will be listed the following day along with the next giveaway

Make a nickel and dime quilt, they sew up fast and look awesome. This layer cake paired with a bright charm pack would be perfect!
Layer cakes can become wonderful 2.5 inch squares, part of my granny squares or the solids are wonderful for making pinwheels with a print or another solid.
I am planning on joining in a quilt along using a print layer cake and a solid. This would be a great match 🙂
I’ve not used a layer cake yet but I’m sure I would find a good use for it.
I would combine it with my thirties scraps and try to make a dent in that pile.
To tell you the truth I have never used a layer cake. Have looked and looked at them, but never actually bought one. Would love the chance to start. Thanks!
I haven’t used a layer cake before but I have lots of patterns one could be used in!
I have never sewn with a layer cake before. But as making an appliquéd dresden plate is on my wish list, that is what I would use this layer cake for. it would be perfect for the background pieces!
I like to use layer cakes for stack the deck quilts a la Karla Alexander. Thanks for the giveaway.

Christa…..I am wanting to make my late husbands Granddaughter a quilt and thought I would make it out of layer cakes. I have the oranges, but I do need the whites. The pattern is one I saw online, I think it is called disappearing Pinwheel. Thank you in advance for giving one of us a chance to win this layer cake. You “ROCK”!
I would find a quilt pattern using a layer cake. I have never used one before!
I’ve never used a Layer Cake before. Deb at A Quilter’s Table posted an HST quilt a while ago that I’d love to make using solids from a Layer Cake.
I saw a pattern for using a layer cake square with a charm square in the middle. I have some charm squares just waiting for a layer cake!
I could make great use of a Snow layer cake – I have a Camille Roskely pattern in mind for an April Showers layer cake
I’ve never used one, but would love to try! I would use it in a throw size quilt for tv watching.
I have never used layer cakes before. I would use it in some form in one of my next quilts.
I’ve been wanting to do Jenny Doan’s disappearing pinwheel quilt. This would be perfect for half of it. 🙂 Thanks
Me too Gaila C. Good Luck!!
I love them for quilts!
I would use it for HSTs and a pinwheel quilt!
I’ve used layer cakes for lots of things! Mostly I cut them into other shapes though. If I leave them in their original shape I will applique or embroider on them. It’s a very useful cut of fabric. 🙂
I love to look at them. So neat, especially with those pinked edges all neatly lined up. But I also like using them for quilts. Anything to reduce the amount of time spent cutting!
I have many layer cakes I have never used any of them I think I would combine this with one that I have and see what I could come up with
I layer them to make half-square triangles using the paper method…..so quick and easy.
I would use it in the layer cake quilt along…
I have never used a layer cake, but would love to combine this with a Simply Colour one that I have to make a quilt.
I have been trying to get to the quilt store for this layer cake to use in disappearing pinwheels. So it will be just the right thing. Thank you for all your great give a ways.
Me too Carol Kuse! Good Luck to you 🙂 !
I’d use it for pillow covers!
I’ve never used layer cakes so I’d like to experiment.
I’m making a 30’s quilt and I could use some more Kona snow.
I use layer cakes for a frame it up pattern I have. It is a great way to show off larger prints or prints that you just love a bunch! If I win this, though, it will go with my 30s repros and be used for a 6″ block sampler I am doing. 🙂
That’s the best color for backgrounds! It fits in with any kind of fabric, from batiks to Civil War, and I love it. Thanks or the chance to win. As for what I do with them, it varies. Sometimes I use it like any other fabric and cut pieces, and sometimes I use it as a shortcut to a fast quilt.
I have seen several patterns that use layer cakes and a specialty ruler(?) that you cut the cake up and rearrange pieces and sew it back together. Old age is definitely sinking here as I can’t seem to remember ruler name or pattern name.
Deborah….was that by any chance the ‘Five & Dime’ pattern from the Loose Change pattern book using Kansas Troubles fabric?
Layer cakes are so handy!! Great for subcutting when you need smaller pieces – I always seem to cut yardage crooked!
I would use it to make a chevron quilt. I have made one using patterned fabric and really liked it. I think it would look great in a solid. I liked the one you did in solids. Thanks for the give away.
I find layer cakes very versatile. So many shapes can be cut from them such as charms, mini charms, and 2 1/2″ strips. My favourite pattern for a layer cake is Double Slice which goes together really quick. Snow Bella Solids is a favorite of mine. Thanks for offering this giveaway.
I would add it to other prints and use a pattern from my “another BITE of Schnibbles” book. It is a book written for charms and layer cakes!
This would be my first layer cake. I think I would use the pieces in a chevron modern quilt I want to make, coral and navy for the other colors. Any leftovers would be great for small embroideries.
Oooh, I think a Hugs & Kisses quilt would be in my future!
I would use the layer cakes to embroider Christmas ornaments and to embroider labels for the quilts I make. Thanks for offering this giveaway.
I think layer cakes would be perfect for making a whole bunch of HSTs super quick using the “sew around the edge then cut through the middle” method. 🙂
I’ve been looking at the Bh&g quiltalong and I’m thinking this layer cake would be great for the crossed ( burgoyne surrounded )parts of the quilt. I love solids as of late.
I just saw a pretty quilt pattern that calls for a layer cake and that is what I would make with this. It is an X and O type pattern but simple to cut and sew.
I’ve actually never used a layer cake before, but if I won this one, I would embroider blocks for a baby quilt for the grandson that we are expecting in June.
