Christa’s Giveaway – Aurifil Thread Bundle

It’s time for another giveaway! As with all of the giveaways I’m hosting during my Abacus Quilt Along, you do not have to follow along to participate in the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to comment and enter for a chance to win.

abacus_aurifil_threadBeautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.

Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.

Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.

Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!

To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂

Good luck!

I’m trying to get my courage up to try applique! I really admire the beautiful appliqued pieces I’ve seen – and appreciate the effort that must have gone into creating them.

I enjoy machine applique, but haven’t done much of it yet. Have done lots of hand applique and love it with Aurifil thread. It is the nicest thread that I have tried!!!!

I like machine applique, although I’ve done a bit of hand applique. Would love to try those threads in those pretty colors. Thanks.

I loved hand applique, however my old hands don’t work so well at that, so I now machine applique, and I love the Aurifil threads because they are so thin and no lint, and easier to use. Thanks for the chance!

I prefer machine applique with a zig-zag stitch, just because I have done that more and am used to it. But I have been trying to learn hand-applique. Thanks for the chance at the beautiful colors!

I like machine applique but I worry about raw edges on things that will be machine washed. For something like a baby quilt, I will turn the edges under if I do applique.

I love doing machine applique on a lot of projects, but I also love to do needle-turn hand applique. It really depends on what I am making. With machine applique, you get to add the extra pop by using the shiny threads. Thank you for the giveaway.

I haven’t done machine appliqué yet, but I have done some hand appliqué and love it! One of these days I’ll get to do a project on the machine. I think I prefer the look of straight stitch appliqué over blanket or satin stitch, so I would start with that.

Love machine appliqué and hand turn appliqué. I still use my machine for basting for hand appliqué for projects to take on the road

I like doing machine appliqué with a 30mm stitch plate, fabric stabilizer, and good thread like Aurifil. Take your time and enjoy the moment.

i love machine applique. I usually try to trim the fusible fabric to 1/4 inch of the perimater so that you don’t up with a big stiff patch on the quilt though. Blanket stitich is my favorite for securing the material. svonfumetti at yahoo dot com

I enjoy machine appliqué. I’ve done mostly piecing lately but have seen some beautiful appliqué quilts lately that I’d like to try.

I haven’t done appliqué yet, only been piecing/quilting less than a year. I have saved several appliqué patters as I do want to try it.

I’ve mainly hand appliqued but have recently (thanks to a new machine) tried machine applique – I feel more in control with hand stitching but machining is of course faster and maybe more secure. I don’t mind either method.

I prefer to do my applique by hand. I like the soft puffiness of the shapes, and the way no thread is visible so it looks like it is floating on the background. I do like machine applique for quick projects, but for special things I much prefer needleturn. Thanks for the great giveaway!

I haven’t tried applique yet, but it is on my “to do list”. Definetely it’s to be a machine work, not by hand. Your Abacus project will be an inspiration for a baby quilt I’m going to make. Thank you for a giveaway :).

I’ve done very little applique and would like to learn to do better machine applique. I think I just need to practice more. These are beautiful colors of Aurifil, the thread I cannot live without. Thanks for offering them.

I took a machine applique class with Judy Niemeyer (www.quiltworx.com) this past summer and I LOVE it! She is an amazing teacher and she made it so easy. Plus, I only use Aurifil thread with my Berninas, they love it.

I love machine appliqué. I continue to practice and think of innovative different designs to dress up anything from a bag, dress or quilt.

I used to do machine applique many years ago and enjoyed it back then. I want to do some again as now I have a new sewing machine that should make it much easier then it was back then.
