It’s time for another giveaway! As with all of the giveaways I’m hosting during my Abacus Quilt Along, you do not have to follow along to participate in the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to comment and enter for a chance to win.
Beautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.
Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.
Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.
Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!
To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂
Good luck!

I prefer hand applique, although I haven’t done much of either. I just find that machine applique slips and puckers, even using the fusible web.
I have never tried machine applique, I have always done it by hand. I love the colors of the thread and I think it is amazing they all match so well.
I’m okay with it, but I don’t rush to going it not is it my first thought when planning a new quilt.
I have done both hand and machine appliqué. I like how fast you can finish with machine appliqué.
I have only dabbled a little with machine applique but so far love it! I want to do more but can’t seem to find the time. Hand applique and I do not get along at all machine is the way to go for sure!!
I’m working on my first appliquĂ© project, so I’ll know whether I like it or not soon!
I am a new quilter and a little intimidated to try appliqué. Once I complete quilting my pieced quilt tops, and baby gifts are done, it is on my list to try!
Love applique of any kind…usually use fusible interfacing.
I have not tried machine appliqué, but I will be very soon. I selected a Christmas gift project for my kids that machine appliqué.
I love machine applique but I definitely need practice to perfect my “skill”.
Ive just purchased a machine that has an appliquĂ© stitch and I am excited to try it out again. The first time was a terrible experience, using an old, finicky machine. Between educating myself on the process, purchasing a quality machine, and switching to quality fabrics and thread, I’m looking forward to the process going much smoother.
I am practicing machine applique before I actually put on a quilt. I am not giving up just takes a little time. Thanks
I love machine applique for its speed. I am not very patient most of the time. Occasionally for a smaller project I will hand applique.
I have a growing love for machine appliqué
I haven’t tried it yet. I’m a bit scared.
So far I feel that machine appliquĂ© isn’t too bad and doing it with Aurifil would make it that much better! 🙂
Machine applique is on my quilty bucket list – thanks.
I really don’t know how to machine appliquĂ© so I would do it by hand. I’ve tried various methods of hand appliquĂ© and would probably use the one taught by Jo Morton. Thanks for the chance to win some Aurifil thread.
Still learning machine applique! 🙂 As I get better I know I will like it better.
Machine applique sure comes in handy, but if I can, I’ll do hand applique. I too love that we have options! Your Aurifil spools atop your fabric circles are quite luscious eye candy!
I love it for about one project. Then I have to do something else until I feel I can love it again!
Haven’t done much applique, just got a new machine and can’t wait to try applique with it. And machine applique for sure, no time for hand applique, I am still working.
I like machine appliquĂ© because it’s quick and easy but I like hand appliquĂ© too!
I haven’t done a lot of machine applique so I am hoping this is going to improve my skills. Some of the key things I look for it in a new project. a new technique, a chance to improve my skills and an eye catching design. Beautiful thread colours.
I really like machine applique
I first tried machine appliqué after reading the book Scandinavian Stitches by Kajsa Wikman and I love it. Thanks for the giveaway!

I love these colours, thnx for the chance to learn and to win
I have not done any machine embroidery. I should try it. Aurifil is great thread.
I am learning machine applique. Just need to keep practicing with the stitches. Thanks for the chance to win!

I love it. Makes my job really quick.
Aurifil is awesome! I have done hand applique predominantly. As for machine technique, I only know needle turn and starch method. I really appreciate your giveaways! Doing Quilts for Kids and everything I win helps! God Bless!
I love machine applique, especially when done with a tiny buttonhole stitch.
Beautiful colors of Aurifil! I’m ok with machine appliquĂ©. I think there is room for all the different kinds of appliquĂ©s and gives a person some options. I do machine appliquĂ©, needle turn and the starch method. Earlier this year I was Blessed to be able to take a two day class with Pearl Pereira learning her starch method. I prefer doing appliquĂ© by hand but if time is short, machine appliquĂ© works great.
Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

I have not machine appliqued yet, but am looking forward to trying it….esp using these beautiful threads.
Love machine applique! My very first quilt long years ago was hand applique (an overall boy quilt for my son), but there are so many updated ways to do it by machine now and have it look nice.
I was not comfortable with it. I was use to hand applique. I would try it again with a little persuasion! LOL
Machine is the best way to make sure it lasts through washings after washings in my opinion, but I’ve actually done applique by hand the most.
Machine applique is wonderful. While I know how to hand applique, without machine applique a lot of projects just wouldn’t get finished.
I don’t love to do it as I ned much more practice. I tend to stick to stitch in the ditch or stipple.
I just finished my first machine appliquĂ© tonight and my fabric is now wavy. Hopefully it will flatten out. Otherwise I won’t be a fan of this technique. I definitely need more practice. Used Aurifil zigzag around the hearts and it is beautiful!
I like raw edge appliqué, but am learning to do machine embroidery appliqué .
I love applique but never tried with my machine. Mostly I am doing needleturning.
Yes I really love machine applique and oh to have the choice of the beautiful colors of Aurifil threads to do it. Thank you for the chance to have them.
I don’t do much machine applique anymore but I have in the past. There are just so many new excellent threads for it now. Love the clean graphic of your design. Thanks for the chance to win.
I’m a newbie at this. Haven’t figured out if I like machine applique. But I LOVE Aurifil thread.
I haven’t tried it (yet)!
I love Machine applique- it saves so much time:)
Thanks so much for this great giveaway!
I really like machine applique but mine needs more practice. It’s not that good.
I like machine applique too, raw edge with FMQ or turned edges with tiny zig zag in Aurifil threads , of course 🙂
Love the look of appliquĂ©, but don’t have the patience to do it. Would like to master invisible machine appliquĂ©.
