It’s time for another giveaway! As with all of the giveaways I’m hosting during my Abacus Quilt Along, you do not have to follow along to participate in the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to comment and enter for a chance to win.

abacus_aurifil_threadBeautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.

Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.

Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.

Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!

To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂

Good luck!

I have done machine applique, though not for awhile. When I am in the groove of doing- a large project or several small things, I am totally into it!

I love machine applique. Both raw edge & satin stitch. I find the knee lift on the machine is a must have for this technique.:)

Wellll. I have to admit that I have not done much appliqué yet. I find it a but intimidating and since I have so many other ideas and techniques I’m still learning it just hasn’t been a priority! The one time I did use it I raw edge appliquéd with a zig zag stitch and it was actually really fun!! The final outcome wasn’t super polished or proffesional looking but it got the job done and I loved it!

I love machine appliqué! My favorite way is with non woven fusible interfacing. Sew it like a pillow, then turn.. All your edges are turned under!

I think machine applique is very nice I haven’t tried it yet, it’s a little intimidating for me lol Thank you for the chance to win

I haven’t done much machine applique but I definitely prefer it to hand applique which is tedious to me. I think that machine applique can be beautiful if you select your threads carefully and use some of the unique stitches on your sewing machine.

Machine quilting is my forte, and Aurifil thread is the best, especially 50-weight. I use it either on top and bottom or as the bobbin thread when quilting with silk.

I enjoy hand applique and find it relaxing. When I want it done quickly or making something for my grandchildren, I prefer machine applique.

The thread colors are beautiful. I have not done much applique in the past but it is in my bucket to do after the first of the year. I love Aurifil thread. I just got a box of basics today (Pat Sloan’s pick) and I bought some off of Craftsy today…they are on sale at that site.

To be truthful, I love template free applique – by hand. It is a needle turn form of applique. I love the portability of hand applique and hand quilting (yes, I know….) I’ve tried machine quilting and 2 courses later, have just decided that I’m more comfortable and in control with the hand quilting. I do a lot of machine piecing.
Love the choice of colours for your thread giveaway!

What a lovely giveaway! I love doing machine applique! I usually use a satin stitch around a fused piece. Sometimes buttonhole. Occasionally, the quilt will call for invisible applique with a turned edge.

I’m only just now learning to machine applique! It makes it faster than by hand for sure, which means I am more inclined to finish a piece (rather than letting them languish half-done). And I love Aurifil–the colors are always so vibrant and lovely!

I enjoy machine appliqué,mostly for all the beautiful thread work, and the fact that I can hide
mistakes with it!(and I’m dying to try Aurofil thread)

I love machine applique and this is the only applique I have done. I do love hand applique quilts but don’t have the patience to do this! I would love to win the Aurifil thread – it’s my new favorite thread for machine quilting.

How about scared of it? I just haven’t done any appliqué. I’m afraid of the edges unraveling and the appliqué, then not looking good. Maybe someday I’ll get around to taking a class on it.

I tried machine applique when I first began quilting. It turned out okay but I didn’t love the process and haven’t ventured back to it. Your quilt is very pretty, especially that quilting.

I much prefer machine applique to hand applique, but I’m “somewhere in between” loving applique & hating it!! I think I just need more experience with it!!

Just getting to know my machine, I haven’t done applique yet. Willing to try it along with everything else. Beautiful colored threads.

I LOVE machine applique! I’ve only just started with a couple of pillows and a baby quilt, but I absolutely love it! Working on some Halloween mug mats now. Can’t wait to do more.

I wish my Janome had a blanket stitch that I could use for machine applique. I always love that look when I see it but I have to resort to short zig-zags for my only option.

For me machine applique is far easier than hand. I do both and it really depends on the fabric I am using but I do enjoy machine much better. Love the blog!!

  22. Mildred says:

Love both. I will admit that hand applique is still my favorite but I do love to experiment with the pre-programmed stitches on my machine to give my machine applique a different look. It’s always a great surprise to see the finished look especially when I change the thread colors. Thanks so much for this Abacus quilt along and the opportunity to get more Aurifil for my stash!

I haven’t tried applique yet but hoping to take an upcoming class this fall. It looks fun and the results are really pretty so I’ll give it a go.

I’ve done machine and hand appliqué. The majority of my appliqué is machine. For the past 5 years, I’ve been hand appliquéing the border of my Women of Design Quilt. My thread of choice for machine piecing and quilting is Aurifil! Thank you for the chance to win!
