Christa’s Giveaway – Aurifil Thread Bundle

It’s time for another giveaway! As with all of the giveaways I’m hosting during my Abacus Quilt Along, you do not have to follow along to participate in the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to comment and enter for a chance to win.

abacus_aurifil_threadBeautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.

Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.

Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.

Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!

To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂

Good luck!

have only tried it once or twice and found working on quilt size project under the needle rather bulky and awkward. would like very much to try aurifil and try it again

I do all kinds of appliqué, depends on style of project. Machine is faster and using Aurifil thread that matches looks wonderful. Also use Aurifil for my hand turned appliqué, it disappears so you do not see stitches, love it!

I have not tried machine applique. I rather do it by hand because I like the relaxing I do when I sit back and do it by hand. Thanks for the giveaway.

I have not tried machine applique yet. I have done it by hand. It is on my list to try by machine after I am done sewing for my sons wedding. Such lovely threads, thanks for this opportunity.

Much prefer machine applique, especially as I’m getting older and arthritis makes handwork more challenging. I also prefer a blanket stitch to a straight stitch.

Hello Christa, I love machine applique….With arthritis in my hands I do very little hand sewing now, but my machine and all those cute little stitches it has makes applique so much fun….Thank you for a loving giveaway…Your quilt is so nice and eye catching….

I absolutely love the look of needle turn applique, but I’ve barely learned how to do it and have only done a couple. I usually stick with piecing quilts and I’m pretty much a beginner.

Since I have issues with my thumbs I can’t do turned edge applique, like I’d like…so I use the machine and make up for the less “polished” look by making the machine appliques as cute as possible with my machine’s many decorative stitches…I try to use a variety on each quilt, not just blanket stitch or whatever. And I like to use threads in contrasting colors so they really stand out.

I don’t do any hand applique, but machine applique with invisible thread works fine for me – both raw edge, fused appliques and an applique edge turned under freezer paper and temporarily glued down.
    thanks!!

While I prefer the look of hand applique, machine applique certainly has it’s place. I have used machine applique several times and enjoy the process.

I like needle turn hand applique. I really like the way it looks and I don’t mind working on it. I am not really fond of the look of machine applique but in a few instances it’s fine especially if the thread matches.

I love to do raw edge appliqué but at times I hate it especially when the fabric frays. Just been introduced to this wonderful thread and I really need to build on my Aurifil thread collection

I’m new to quilting and even sewing, so I have only attempted machine applique a few times. First thing I figured out was .. Don’t Rush!

Love all aspects of needlework, especially ones that involve my sewing machine. I have appliquéd cartoon characters on clothing (when my son was a tot), but have never (yet) made a quilt. Thank you for the advice. It’s great that so many talented people selflessly impart their knowledge in a blog.

Love the colors you used on the Quilt, it is a very modern quilt, have not done a lot of Applique but i like hand sewing and have a few years recently been doing some machine stitching. Would love to win some of those beautiful Aurifil threads they are a great color scheme.

Haven’t done much applique, but yes, when I do it’s by machine. Now I do most all my quilting (ie piecing, quilting, and binding) by machine.
PS and I use Aurifil threads exclusively!

I do mostly machine applique. It’s quicker for me. I have done hand applique and I like doing it, but it takes too long. I like working with the Aurifil thread. I am in process of quilting a quilt that is the same shade of grey in the giveaway so I could use more thread.
