abacus_aurifil_threadBeautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.

Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.

Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.

Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!

To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂

Good luck!

I am not rond af applique because of the extra time, but I do not mind doing it and it looks ok. I am not sure I could be cery good at it.

I like using machine applique for some projects but I really prefer hand applique. It’s my favourite quilting technique.

I like machine applique ,looks beautiful when you are using good thread. But I don’t mind hand applique ,beautiful on it’s own…

I’ve only done a few machine appliqué projects. I do enjoy it. I usually use the blanket stitch around the edges and sometimes follow different parts of the design using a regular stitch. I have never tried hand appliqué. Nice give a way! Thanks!

I love the chance to ‘have a go’ at all kinds of techniques. Am a recent convert to Aurifil thread, but only have one, lonely spool of white!

I love machine applique. I did it 25 years ago..and used coloring books and iron on interfacing. I appliqued on everything! I stopped sewing for about 20 years and picked it back up again about 3 years ago and have started appliquing again. Only difference, now I just pull a pattern off the internet instead of shopping for coloring books!

I love doing Blanket stitch Machine Appliqué. I don’t enjoy doing it by hand as it’s very hard to keep the stitches regular

I have learned to like machine applique after winning fused blocks that had to be finished with applique stitching. Great stitching practice. One block had 69 bitty pieces – what a win!

I’ve only done a few applique projects by machine and I’m not sure I like doing them. I will have to continue to try and see how it goes before I can say I hate it. I do know that I would do them by machine more often because I’m not a fan of hand sewing. Thanks for the chance to win.

I tend to do hand appliqué because I like hand work and feel more in control. Sometimes I blanket stitch around the shape and other times I turn the edges under and sew carefully to hide the stitches. Thanks for a great giveaway. x

I am not a fan of doing machine applique myself but think it looks wonderful when other people do it. I personally like the finished edges of needle turn applique and use it on all my quilts.

I really enjoy machine applique, which I started about 40 yrs. ago when I was making sweet little applique designs for my children’s handmade clothes. Still going strong today using machine applique for my grandchildren’s things, handbags, and quilts.

I am not a fan of doing machine appliqué as it can quickly turn into an unsightly mess. I prefer to do hand appliqué and so I don’t do all that much of it. That being said, I do love the Aurifil threads!
Thanks so much for the giveaway,

I love hand applique but don’t have time to do it often so I settle for machine applique. With the right thread you can make it almost invisible or very decorative.

Seems like I have always done applique and now I am incorporating it into my quilting…I can’t paint or draw so applique is the perfect way to show my creative side!

I’ve done very little appliqué. Now that I’m retired I hope to try doing more. I’m a little intimidated by it. So I need to jump in and practice!!
