For the last two years, I’ve publicly stated my New Year’s Goals on my blog and I’m ready to it again for 2015! I love to call them goals rather than resolutions, and by writing them down, they are more apt to happen. I prefer to get a jump start on the new year by listing them a month early. (I used to be a serious procrastinator, but once I turned 40 that was finally a habit I was able to break!)
For anyone who wishes to walk down memory lane, you can take a look at my earlier goals below. I’m proud to say that I’ve actually been able to accomplish most of them!
So without further ado, here are my goals for 2015:
- Have a successful book launch later in the year
- Continue to work on my health and fitness
- Set up a traveling schedule and obtain more teaching opportunities
- Plan and propose my next book idea
- Increase my circle of quilting friends
I’m pretty excited about these because they will give me the excuse I need to make a boatload of quilts! (Not that I really needed one, right?)
My view from Sewtopia – a modern quilting retreat I attended earlier this year.
Although quilting is my full-time job, I really enjoy traveling to amazing events, meeting new friends, and discovering luscious new fabrics. I’m sure I could stay home behind the scenes and be just as successful running the precut-store part of our business. But I really do need to be around people and share in their quilty excitement.
My kids are growing up and my oldest will graduate and leave home next summer. He’s planning on going on a 2-year mission for our church and then he’ll head off to college when he returns. So next year will be a huge life change for us as we set those plans in motion; we jokingly tell him we are already making plans on what to do with his bedroom when he’s gone! But in the meantime, we are going to have as much fun with him as we can and go on a few family trips before he leaves – I can’t wait!
This was during our last family trip to Mexico. I love these guys!
I have to say that for the most part, this has been a good year. It’s been super busy of course and it’s had its share of ups and downs. But I can truthfully say after years of hard work (and a few wrinkles and gray hairs), I’m excited for what comes next!
Hi Christa, I call ’em goals too:) Seems it’s a reachable thing instead of a resolved (resolution” matter. My 2015 goals to have FUN with are: Applique by machine as I never tried it. Paper piecing.
Free Motion quilting. Thank you for getting my list started. Wow yours is truly impressive.
I have enjoyed your quiltalongs this year. Hope you do one or two in 2015, I do have goals for quilting but oftentimes things happen and I don’t get finished. My husband says, “are you going to finish this one?” So I keep my goals to myself. I appreciate all you do for us. Thank you.
Keep up the good work but don’t stretch yourself too much that you are so busy you can’t enjoy the adventure.
Good on you! You’ve got me thinking about mine. I’ve only planned as far as February.
I love making goals for the new year! Unfortunately, I was not so good with my 2014 ones. I’m thinking of just re-using them AND listing steps of how to achieve them for this year. Would love to take a class from you if you venture out to Ohio.
Thanks for sharing. Reminded me of many years ago and a different house. My daughters tell the story to anyone who will listen, that when my brother left home my mom had great plans for his room. She painted it and turned into a beautiful sewing room. Oh not ours, mine was a storage room for presents and mine was just a junk room.
Looks like you are well on your way, and I completely agree that writing your goals down does hold you accountable. I’ve already started drafting my 2014 Yearly Recap post; and while I’ve casually mentioned some goals for 2015…maybe I need to follow your lead and write a separate post altogether.
Oh, and I’m definitely looking forward to your Goal 1.
Hi Christa,
I have only recently found your blog and website through the MQG webinar. Im finding you so inspiring. I love that your writing is honest and really down to earth. Look forward to following you and letting you inspire me to achieve my goals for 2015. Notice ahem…. that I have not shared them yet. Hee hee.
I also wrote down goals for 2014 and have it folded and clipped to my calendar. I won’t look at it I til the new year to see what I wrote down and finished. I wanted to let you know that Mark Lipinski gave you a shout out on his blog yesterday in reference to the tree quilt you made.
I had to chuckle and concur with Marcia’s comment. My son made the comment that, at his graduation (college) I would spend the next 24 hours changing his room into my sewing space. I assured him that I would not..until he “found his bearings”. A week later the conversion started. LOL! Your family is still young enough that there are a few more years for you all to be under one roof. Enjoy and make the most of them. You have an exciting year ahead…full of adventures for sure. It will unfold fast….savor every second!!!!! Hugs……
Don’t be in a hurry to take over your son’s room, he still needs a home to return to during breaks and summer vacation.
