Learn About Quilting with Curves!

Welcome to my stop on the C&T blog hop for my friend Daisy Aschehoug’s brand new book called Quilting with Curves. If you love the look of curved piecing but don’t know where to start, then this is the book for you!

Even if you are a curved piecing aficionado, the 20 geometric, modern designs in this book are sure to inspire! Below are just a few of my faves.

So Daisy and I have been friends for many years. We originally met at a quilting retreat and we’ve taught at several of the same industry events. She’s also an expert at designing in Illustrator, and I’ve taken a couple of her courses to improve my design skills. I was very happy that C&T sent me 2 copies of her new book, so that means I get to give the second one away!

We recently met up with a group of friends for dinner at the Road to California quilt show back in January. We’ll both be teaching together at QuiltCon in 2024 so it will be fun to hang out again then!!

To enter the giveaway, simply leave a comment letting me know if you’ve tried curved piecing before. I do enjoy the technique, and each time I see a quilt made from curved piecing, it makes me want to play around more with curved designs!

I’ll leave this giveaway open through the end of the blog hop which is on July 1, 2023 and will notify the winner via email. It’s open to all so if it happens to be an international winner, you’ll get a PDF copy of the book instead.

I have done some curved piecing, mostly by hand , but also on the machine. I love Daisy’s work. She is an inspiration!

I have tried curved piecing a couple of times but still feels uncomfortable about it. I love Daisy Ashehoug’s quilts and had the chance to see them exhibited at the Carrefour européen in France.

I’ve done small projects with curves and a full drunkard’s path is on my to do list – mainly because I love how many different designs can be made just by flipping the blocks; so I’m looking forward to playing with options .

I never learned how to quilt with curves in it. I am just a beginner quilter. But all of your work is beautiful.

I have the tools and the ideas but not the nerve. The first quilt I fell in love with was a red and white drunkards path…so many years ago now. Someday?

After I made my first quilt (jelly roll stripes), I wanted to make my mom a quilt from my grandfathers dress shirts. I eneded up using a pattern with curves. I learned a lot! As difficult and frustrating as it was, the quilt is so special. A few years and quilts later, I’m getting the itch to try curves again!

Of all of the quilts I’ve made, two of my favorites are the ones using improved curves. I’ve admired Daisy’s quilts for a long time and as I looked at some of these photos, I found myself thinking “hmmm….” about some of the fabrics in my stash.

I’ve done a little bit of curved piecing, just the odd block here and there but not an entire quilt. I need to expand my horizons! Thanks for a great giveaway opportunity!

I think it is interesting that what goes around, comes around. Many years ago, using templates for drunkard’s path, was a standard way of including curved piecing in a sampler. Now, with the modern interpretation, the curves are larger and more creative in their design and my feelings of ‘been there, done that’ are changing and am ready to embrace a newer way of doing an older technique

I have made a few quilts with curved piecing and found it to be easier than it looks. This looks like a great book!

I have tried pieced curves and love the affect. I’ve made a couple of wallhangings and would love to tackle a full quilt. This book looks amazing , If I don’t win it will be on my wish list. 🙂

Yes I’ve pieced curves in a class of Daisy’s. She’s a great teacher so I can imagine her book is well written!! It would be fun to have a copy 😃

I started a yellow and white Drunkard’s Path quilt for my first born, but life got in the way. 58 years later, I’m ready to finish it, although the remainder will be machine sewn rather than all the hand sewing I did on the first part.

I love doing curved piecing and the designs that can be made with curves. I was delighted to see that Daisy had written a book of her fabulous designs for us to try for ourselves.

I’m experienced with curved piecing. One of the classes I’ve taught involved curved piecing and I asked my 12 year old daughter to do some of the piecing for the demo. Then I told the ladies, if a 12 year old can piece curves, so can you!

I love the design possibilities with curved piecing. I have done some curved blocks and I made one baby quilt with curved piecing. I loved it!

I have never tried curved piecing before but being a math geek, I love the look of geometric quilts and have always wanted to try one but have been too afraid to try. Would love the book to give me the knowledge to tackle this.

I have tried a couple of times without great success. Willing to try again. I have seen some really fun curved quilt patterns lately

I have done curved piecing. When I first started quilting, I took a hand piecing sampler class. One of the blocks was the drunkards path. I then learned to piece it on the machine. A few years ago I made a throw size quilt with lots of curves. It is a fun technique that just takes a little practice.

I haven’t done curved quilting but looks interesting. I did by a curved ruler set but haven’t used it yet.

My first attempt at curved piecing was a disaster. So I put the project aside. Then I was at a quilt show where curved piecing was demonstrated and I understood what I did wrong. I pulled the project out again and had much better results. The patterns in the book look amazing and they make me want to try curved piecing again.

I have made blocks with curves a number of times, and I enjoy the technique and finished project. I can always use more practice and new ideas!

That book looks fabulous! I have pieced curves before, using the mini curve ruler for cutting, and then again using a drunkard’s path die to cut the pieces. The stitching part wasn’t too bad. 🙂

I have always been intimidated by curved piecing and have never tried it. And I’ve been quilting since 1994, so it’s about time I did, don’t you think? 🙂

I have not attempted to quilt with curves yet. They intimidate me, yet fascinate me all at the same time. Your quilts are beautiful. Thank you for a chance to win.

Thanks for the inspiration! I am new to curve piecing and have tried a couple of blocks but I have yet to make an entire quilt using curves patterns. I have it on my to do list though!

Curved piecing is one of the techniques I have on my Quilt To-Do list. As circles are my favorite shape, learning to piece curves will be a challenging technique to learn—but I love a challenge!

I really enjoy reading your posts Christa, thank you. I was fortunate enough to learn curved piecing from a good friend, via zoom during lockdown. The first few attempts were puckered and uneven, but eventually the curves were perfect. Now it’s one of my favorite skills.
