This and That

Just a little bit of this, that, and the other today:

This

Congratulations to loralyejean who won the copy of EQ7 quilt design software. She requested the Mac version, so it should be on it’s way soon!
20140425_eq7_mac

This is what she had to say in her comment:

“I have been drawing graph paper designs since I was a teenager and am now in my 50′s! I just finished my first large quilt (large to me 67″ x 67″) from my own design! I am an unemployed graphic artist and design on one of my two imacs at home! The EQ7 for Mac software would be extremely beneficial in turning 100′s of graph paper designs into quilt patterns! My designs are pretty intricate and the software would make the process of transferring the designs to the software so much easier! Thank you for this opportunity! Best of luck to everyone! :)”

Well loralyejean definitely had good luck today! Thanks to all of you who commented – that really makes my day! And just remember, you can like Electric Quilt on Facebook or sign up for the EQ Mailing List to get all latest news, including sales and giveaways, and free EQ7 downloads!

Here’s a fun blog post I wanted to share with you, written by my friend Lorna of who blogs at SewFreshQuilts. She compiled a list of one word attributes from fellow bloggers along with advice on what makes a great blog. I was honored to be included among her guests, so be sure to check it out here. She has a really fun weekly linky party, too!

The Other

Thanks to all of you who follow me via my other social media. Because of the traffic to my Craftsy Blog Posts, I was listed as one of the top referrers to Craftsy in our monthly writers’ newsletter. So thanks, guys and gals, for making me look good!

(And also thanks to those of you who started following me via Instagram after my announcement yesterday!) It’s fun to have followers. 🙂

Christa’s Giveaway – Win a Copy of EQ7 for the Mac (or PC)

I knew it wouldn’t be long before I was able to offer another fabulous giveaway! This one is sponsored by my friends (really they are!) over at Electric Quilt. To celebrate the release of EQ7 for the Mac, they’ve generously decided to give away a copy to one of you – whoo hoo!

20140425_eq7_mac

Don’t worry, this giveaway is actually open to everyone – if the winner is a PC owner, you can select the original version instead of the Mac version. No need to go buy a brand new computer just to run the software on (though that’s exactly what I did, LOL)! And if you prefer to have a downloadable version rather than a physical copy, that’s available, too!

Because I’m an existing EQ7 user, I only needed to get the migration kit to switch from a PC to a Mac. However, for those of you Mac users who have been patiently waiting for the stand-alone Mac version to be released, the time is now!

Here’s how to enter:

Just leave a comment below telling me if you’ve ever designed your own quilt before. Or if not, what you’d love to design if you could. This will be a short giveaway timerame, running through Monday, May 5th at 6PM Pacific time. I’ll email the winner and make an announcement on my blog next Tuesday, May 6th.

Good luck!

Giveaway Winners and Free Patterns for All

I usually don’t post a separate entry for the winners of my giveaways, but since it was the grand finale last week with lots of prizes, I felt like it deserved a mention. And don’t worry, I’m sure I will be doing more giveaways in the future; they will just be more sporadic. 🙂

christas-giveawaysI was actually able to award 14 winners this week instead of 12. I had an overflowing bundle of scraps and an extra layer cake. So congrats to all these fabulous people (I’ve also emailed each of you separately):

  14. Extra Scraps – Megan V.

And now, for those of you who didn’t win, I wanted to share some free quilt patterns from Craftsy, just in case you didn’t know they existed. Part of my “job” of being a freelance blogger is that I get to do occasional “pattern roundups” featuring fun patterns from the Craftsy community.

I recently picked 5 free paper pieced patterns to showcase in a recent Craftsy blog post. This was hard work as there are literally hundreds to choose from!

It’s easy to find the rest of the free patterns. Simply go to patterns on Craftsy and then sort by “lowest price.” All of the free ones will then be shown first. You can literally spend hours combing through them all. Happy hunting!

Christa’s Year of Weekly Giveways #45 – Bella Solids Layer Cake

First of all, thanks to all of your sweet comments from last week’s giveaway. I love how generous everyone was by wanting to share the love rather than win the prize all for themselves. You guys really encourage me each and every day! Scroll down to the end for the winners.

Layer Cake

Bella Solids Snow Layer Cake

And now for this week’s giveaway: one lucky reader will win a  Moda Bella Solids Layer Cake in the Snow Color. I recently had to “borrow” one square of this layer cake. Since I couldn’t sell it with a missing piece, I decided it would be fun to give the remaining 41 squares to one of you!

So here are the details:

  • Leave your comment below telling me what you like to do with Layer Cakes
  • Giveaway is open to everyone near and far
  • Winner will be chosen at random next Wednesday, February 19th at Noon PST
  • Their name will be listed the following day along with the next giveaway

Last Week’s winners:

Congratulations to Becky R. and Avon B. who each won a charm pack.

Christa’s Year of Weekly Giveways #44 – Two Charm Packs up for Grabs

Charm packs make me happy. Even if I don’t use them all the time, they are just so pretty to look at! This week’s giveaway is pretty straightforward. I have 2 charm packs to give away, but I’ll need a little help in deciding how to distribute them.

Kona Sunrise

I have a charm pack of Kona cotton in the Sunrise colorstory, and a charm pack of Snowbird prints by Laundry Basket Quilts (not available in shops yet)!

Moda SnowbirdSo here’s my conundrum. Should I give them away to two different winners to spread the love? After all, they are completely different styles. Or should I sweeten the pot and send them both to one person? It’s okay – you can leave me your totally honest opinion here.

Leave your answer below and I’ll pick one (or two) winners at random from all those who comment. Giveaway will run through next Wednesday, February 12th at noon. And yes, I can this ship anywhere so it’s open everyone!

Last Week’s Winners:

I had so much fun reading your comments about why you wanted to win the little Goody Bag with a big old G on the front. Many of you were so clever to remind me that Grandma also starts with a G! Good thinking!

The winners are Christa H. who does not have a G in her name but it’s still a great name. 🙂 Her grandson calls her “Grammer.” Too cute!

The other winner is Peggy D. who is going to give it to her daughter Gwen. Congratulations gals – they are on their way!

Christa’s Year of Weekly Giveways #38 – Thread Destashing (2 Winners)

I love machine quilting and collecting lots of different colors, weights and fibers of threads. Recently I’ve decided to stock up on Aurifil as my go-to thread of choice so that means two lucky winners will get to help me destash my threads!

First up I will give one winner a bunch of spools of Superior cotton thread in a variety of colors. These are all 50 weight, 2 ply cotton which are great for piecing as well as machine quilting. I’ll even throw in the rest of my prewound cotton bobbins (since they don’t fit my new Bernina’s larger bobbin case).

20131225_threadThe other giveaway selection is also from Superior and it’s a stack of 40 weight tri-lobal polyester threads. (It won’t be quite as many as shown below – but however many I can fit in a flat rate envelope!)

These are great for machine quilting when you really want your quilting to shine! I just have too much, so I must reduce my stash (yeah and it’s really then just an excuse to go buy more, LOL!)

Thread

This week’s question to answer is simple. Which threads would you prefer to win? The cotton or the poly? I’ll divide the answers into two categories and choose one winner at random for each. (Unfortunately, due to shipping constraints, I’ll have to choose US winners this time.)

Leave your answer below by Wednesday, January 1st at noon. I’ll select two winners at random and will email them directly. (I’ll also announce their names on my blog during next week’s giveaway.)

Good luck and here’s to a great new year!

Last Week’s Winner:

Congratulations to Jacklyn G. who won a Joel Dewberry Bungalow bundle. For those that didn’t win, there are still a few bundles left on clearance, so stock up while you can!

Christa’s Year of Weekly Giveways #37 – Joel Dewberry’s Bungalow Bundle

This week’s giveaway is a whopper! I’m giving one lucky reader a 15 piece Bungalow Bundle by Joel Dewberry! This huge bundle includes 1/2 yard cuts of 15 different pieces from the line for a total of 7.5 yards of luscious fabric!

Bungalow Sale

All yardage is on sale including modern lines like Bungalow by Joel Dewberry.

Modern Neutrals Blog Tour

Modern NeutralsWelcome to all of those swinging by my stop on Amy Ellis’ Modern Neutrals Blog Tour.

I first met Amy when I participated in her fabulous Blogger’s Quilt Festival that she hosts twice a year. I was beyond thrilled to be one of the Spring 2013 winners and even more so with my prize – 4 quilting books of my choice from Martingale.

My first pick was Amy’s book Modern Neutrals – A Fresh Look at Neutral Quilt Patterns and now I’m happy to tell you about it – be sure to scroll to the end for a giveaway!

I absolutely adore the cover quilt with its striking geometry and “pod” looking blocks.

Another favorite of mine is Prism. I have a thing for Kona Solids and Amy has artfully combined solids with tone on tone neutrals in shades of black, white and grey to create a very bold and beautiful quilt. I love it!

Placid Curves speaks to my need for order amid chaos. I love the illusion of curves, even though this quilt is made completely from squares and rectangles. The careful placement of color creates quite a bit of contrast in this warm neutral quilt!

Placid Curves by Amy Ellis; Pieced by Audrie Bidwell; Machine Quilted by Natalia Bonner

There are a total of 15 full sized quilts in the book, each thoughtfully illustrated with clear diagrams and instructions. The photography is very well done, too. You can see details of the beautiful quilting on each quilt, which for me is a plus since I love pouring through books for quilting inspiration.

I especially like it when authors take the time to add just a little bit more to their books, in the way of interesting things to read about the quilts. There’s a section in the front about working with neutrals in neutral spaces, plus several pages of quiltmaking basics at the end – a great refresher or reference for those relatively new to quilting.

Helpful tips are sprinkled throughout the book, along with some options on making a few of the quilts in different sizes. I would definitely recommend Modern Neutrals as a great inspiration manual for making beautiful neutral quilts!

However, if you did manage to finish, you can link up twice for double your chances to win. 🙂

I will select 4 winners at random from all the entries. This giveaway will stay open a little longer than my regular giveaways, just in case anyone wants to start one of my quilt alongs last-minute. (I try to be as accommodating and as inclusive as I can.)

If you have finished your quilt, you can link up twice – with two different pictures, one in-progress and one finished.

The linkup will close on Wednesday, September 11 at 6 PM PST.  Please note that the linkup below will take you to a separate page to linkup. Due to the limitations of WordPress, it won’t show the pictures here in this post. 😦 But they are just a click away!
