Thank you for your interest in hiring me to speak and teach at your event. The following is a breakdown of pricing and accommodation requirements. If this suits your needs, please email me at christa@christaquilts.com to schedule a booking and initiate a contract.
Instructor Fees
- Lecture/trunk show $595. (Approx. 60-75 minutes with slides & quilts)
- Full day workshop (6 hours) $995.
- Bookings that require a non-teaching day in between presentations require a $100 layover fee per non-teaching/speaking day. (This fee is not charged for a Sunday layover.)
- Minimum engagement is lecture/trunk show and one full day workshop.
- Instructor fees for the entire event are due on the first day of the event.
Travel Fees
Note: airfare can be very expensive to some locations. To estimate the airfare costs, please look up the rate from my home airport of Las Vegas, Nevada (LAS). I will fly Southwest whenever possible.
- Airfare includes the cost of a round trip coach ticket, current IRS mileage rates from my home to the airport and back, plus round trip cost for 2 pieces of luggage. On occasion I may be coming or going to a different location; in that case the airfare will be calculated based on the travel locations.
- I book my own airfare and I choose flights and travel times to accommodate my needs (e.g. no super early, very late, or red-eye flights; nor extremely long layovers). Please note that this may not be cheapest flight but I do my best to select the best airfare rate.
- Airfare is due when booked, usually 3-6 months before the event. An itemized invoice will sent in lieu of individual receipts. Airfare is non-refundable unless I need to cancel due to some unforseen emergency.
- Travel fees may include a rental car depending on the distance from the airport to the hosting venue. This usually occurs when the hosting venue cannot pick me up and drive me to the events, due to distance from the airport, guild liability etc. For safety reasons, I prefer to avoid using a ride share when traveling alone.
- Per Diem for meals/incidentals is charged at the current IRS rate per day including travel days and is not pro-rated.
- Per diem fees are invoiced and due ahead of time when airfare is booked.
- Driving instead of Flying: I will drive to locations within 250 miles of Las Vegas; standard IRS mileage rates apply.
Hotel Accommodations
- Hotel lodging is required for bookings outside the Las Vegas area.
- Hotel lodging includes the night before the first event through the night of the last event.
- Hosts usually arrange and pay for hotel lodging. Please let me know if other arrangements need to be made.
- As much as I love visiting with guild members and event hosts, to perform my best, I need to stay in separate hotel with a private, clean & nonsmoking room rather than at anyone’s residence.
Venues
- I’m happy to teach for a wide variety of quilt guilds and quilt club events such as workshops, retreats, guild meetings etc.
- I would be honored to be the featured artist, teacher or keynote speaker for your regional or national quilt show.
- I will travel internationally.
- I do not offer private lessons at this time.
- I do not teach virtual workshops at this time.
- I can accommodate up to 24 students per class. Lectures/trunk shows are unlimited.
- A projector & screen (or HDMI TV) are required along with electricity and extension cords.
Publicity
- I will include a link to your group’s event on my public calendar once details are final.
- I do not have physical samples to share, but you are welcome to use any publicly posted images of my work to help promote the event.
Miscellaneous
- My contract will specify dates and fees for the event, including travel.
- $100 non-refundable deposit due with the signed contract; it is applied toward the balance of the engagement.
- Travel fees (airfare, hotel, etc.) are non-refundable due to cancellation of event by the host.
- Nearby bookings that require an overnight stay must include at least one full day workshop.
- In the event that another booking in the same area is added onto the original event, both groups can share travel expenses. However, both groups will be invoiced separately.
- I prefer to use my own contract for all engagements. If the host wishes to submit their contract in addition to mine, it will be modified to align with mine.
- As a general rule, I don’t teach on Sundays.
- On occasion, family members may travel with me to some locations. In this instance, the hosting group is not responsible for any of their expenses. In this case, I may book my own hotel and charge the group the equivalent price they would have paid for my regular accommodation. The host is still responsible for my transportation costs to and from all events.
- I require tables to set up and share my books, patterns, and other items. I will offer direct sales of my products to students unless specified otherwise and I take care of all required tax remittance.
- Be sure to schedule a venue that allows selling and does not charge me any fees to do so.
- My company is a registered S corporation which means I do not receive a form 1099 and therefore do not usually need to fill out a W-9. If your state requires any additional paperwork or filings, my teaching fees may be increased to cover the time and expense spent to take care of it.
- Itemized invoices are sent in lieu of receipts. This will suffice for accounting and tax needs. If receipts or additional paperwork is required, there will be a $25 admin charge added to the final balance due.
