Tuesday Tools – Wooden Seam Roller Giveaway Winner

From time to time I like to blog about some of my favorite quilting tools. Several months ago as part of my favorite tools series, I first mentioned using a wooden seam roller rather than finger pressing or ironing my seams. I was frustrated at the time because I couldn’t find a wholesale source for these so that I could sell them in my store.

Wooden Seam Roller

Wooden Seam Roller

Then I took a class from Deb Karasik who turned me onto the idea of using a wooden wallpaper roller as a pressing tool for paper piecing. Eureka! Not only does it do the job, but it is wider than my original tool which makes it easier to “seam press” regular blocks, too.

In fact, I will be showing how I used the wooden seam roller in my next DIY quilt tutorial tomorrow!  So now I’m happy to say I have these tools available in my shop. And I’m even happier to say that I’ve decided to give one away to one lucky blog reader.

To enter this giveaway, leave a comment on this post telling me what quilting project you are currently working on. You can even include a link to your blog  in your comments if you want to share a picture of it!

On Friday around 5 PM Pacific Time, I will randomly select one winner from all of the comments posted. I will update this blog at that time to announce the winner (and will also contact him or her separately via email.) So good luck this week and happy pressing!

Updated – We have a winner!!!

First of all I want to share how much fun it was to read about what everyone was working on. Thank you all for your wonderful comments – I do read them all!

Congratulations to Brooke who said “I’m working on a quilt using Sweetwater’s Notworthy…Simply Woven quilt tutorial from Moda Bake Shop.”

Enjoy your seam roller and let me know how you like it. 🙂

I am so glad to have found your site, as i have not seen this wooden tool used in quilting. My quilt Bee group is starting a Random Ohio Stars Bom this Thursday, plus i just started a string quilt from scraps. Thanks for the chance to win this handy tool. Sandra in Mississippi

I am working on a pieced back for a king sized tee-shirt quilt top that I had done just in the nick of time for Christmas; now all there is to make the back, give it to the long-arm quilter, and then sew the binding; my son was pleased with it and I am relieved!

I am doing your DIY QAL. I am using Basics by Basicgrey. At the time I didn’t have the Seascapes charm packs. I do now but will wait until I finish the first. I had to add more dark colors. Thank you for.this.giveaway.

I started working on a “memory” quilt for me. I’m using fabric remnants leftover from my late mom’s sewing projects. After making seven of these quilts for my sisters and nieces, there is just enough scraps left for my quilt. 🙂

I am currently working on blocks for Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler – 7 down, 134 to go!! I do a lot of paper piecing and am in love with the accuracy and points that can be achieved. The roller would save a lot of time since I get up to iron after every seam. Thanks for the chance to win a roller, Christa!

Your words must be magic! As soon as I saw “Wooden Seam Roller” I thought, “Why wouldn’t a Clay Roller work?” I haven’t tried mine yet, but I bet it will work. That is if I can find the box that I put it in when I moved! But just in case I don’t find mine, I sure would like to win one! Thank you for the opportunity!

I love this idea as an alternative to pressing. Anything that saves getting up and down to go to the ironing board a kazillion times is a bonus! 🙂 I’m working on your Sea of Squares tutorial (x2) and will be anxious to see this roller worked in to the instructions. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

Oops! I forgot to include what I’m working on! I am working on a postage stamp quilt and having so much fun with it. I’m hoping to finish it by tomorrow and then I’ll hand-quilt it. It’s very colorful and cheery so I think it’ll be fun to quilt.

Since Christmas it has been a heatwave and a half but we are expecting a change perhaps as soon as tomorrow! I may be able to get back to the piecing and quilting because agonisingly, it has been far too hot to spend time in my sewing room, so I have been sitting under a fan and hand stitching on a canvas. I can’t wait to start a sewing a quilt for a baby due in a week? I guess it will be a little late, but it wouldn’t have been easy for the expectant parents either. Your little wooden roller is the neatest idea to get a good press to the seams and a safer alternative too. I am always careful around irons but they do occasionally manage to bite me.

I’ve been working on bee blocks this past week…I have 16 due in Jan and that’s with being all caught up! Plus five more at the beginning of February. I got halfway through then spontaneously cut and pieced a giant star quilt. I’m looking forward to your tutorial tomorrow. I haven’t Quite figured out a workable pressing set up, so this tool might be just the thing I’ve been looking for.

I saw those wooden rollers in your shop and they have been on my list!! Right now I am finishing up a paper pieced Stocking block ( x 2) by Amy Frind from During Quiet Time that I am making into a mini! No pics yet though….

Finishing up a paper pieced table runner. The roller is another way to eliminate the iron for a while. I’ve had enough accedentally burnt fingers.

I’m working on the binding to my best friends baby quilt. It’s due on Saturday, and I’ve been scrambling to get it done. I like the idea of using a seam roller and will probably look into buying one if I don’t win. Still thanks for the giveaway!

Well, I didn’t finish the quilt I was making for my husband in time for Christmas, and I promised him I wouldn’t even look at another quilt until his is finished! (It’s so hard, though – I am very ready for a new project!). Taking the time to press all of my seams is really hard for me to make myself do — I don’t have a good ironing/sewing set-up, so it’s not at all convenient. I love the idea of using a seam roller like that!

I’m working in a mini Dresden wall hanging with 2 1/2 blades. A little roller would be perfect for those seams! I plan to blog about it today.

I’m working on Craftsy’s 2012 BOM right now! I’m fairly new to quilting, so that’s my only WIP. Thanks for the giveaway! I’ve already had several instances where this seam roller would have come in handy.

I think that a better question would be…What am I not working on!! 🙂 I have way too many projects going. I am finishing up a Saturday Sampler quilt from 2011 (yikes), a Christmas Applique sampler quilt, Dear Jane and making zipper pouches and pincushions! I like having different things to fit the time frame and mood that I am in. This wooden seam roller would be great to use with the Dear Jane blocks. Thank you!!

I’m currently working on the Ron Swanson Along from Happy Zombie. My cousin requested that I make it for him since he loves Parks and Recreation! 🙂 I have never thought about using a roller to press seams, but it seems like a great idea!

I had to take a long break from sewing while out of town for 3 weeks in Dec/Jan. Now I’m having trouble finding my “sewing mojo” and I’m not working on ANY project right now. But the day is young and I hope/plan that today is the day I get back to sewing again!

I am finishing off two baby quilts, I made one for a work colleague and with the extra blocks, how does that happen, I made a smaller one for a local charity. They are both quilted and the binding is sewn on and just needs folding and slip stitching.

I am finishing a T-shirt quilt for my grandson’s Eagle Scout ceremony. I have used all his t-shirts from his years as a scout. This t-shirt quilt is my third one to make and I learn ” a better way” each time I make one. My next project will be the BOM with you. Thanks.

I’m trying to finish off a cot quilt for my new little boy (he is now 4 weeks old) – I’m not finding it easy between caring for him and my 3 1/2 year old son plus we are in the midst of a heatwave, with temperatures of 100F and fire danger about. So, having an alternative to a hot iron sounds like a great tool to have.

I am working your Quilt along #4 and a bunch of UFO’s from last year. Already have two quilts and a table topper out the door and just need to hand stitch the rest of the binding on another to get it on our spare bed. I’m not good at just doing one at a time. 🙂 Thanks for the give away!
