First of all, thanks to all of your sweet comments from last week’s giveaway. I love how generous everyone was by wanting to share the love rather than win the prize all for themselves. You guys really encourage me each and every day! Scroll down to the end for the winners.
And now for this week’s giveaway: one lucky reader will win a Moda Bella Solids Layer Cake in the Snow Color. I recently had to “borrow” one square of this layer cake. Since I couldn’t sell it with a missing piece, I decided it would be fun to give the remaining 41 squares to one of you!
So here are the details:
- Leave your comment below telling me what you like to do with Layer Cakes
- Giveaway is open to everyone near and far
- Winner will be chosen at random next Wednesday, February 19th at Noon PST
- Their name will be listed the following day along with the next giveaway
Last Week’s winners:
Congratulations to Becky R. and Avon B. who each won a charm pack.
Please visit my precut store to see all I have to offer. I really appreciate your support!

Being a newbie, I have yet to have the pleasure of working with a layer cake. I have all kinds of to dos on my list that involve layer cakes. 🙂

I used a layer cake to make a lap quilt for my mother-in-law.
Layer Cakes are big enough to make nice, comfortable 1/2 square triangle blocks like Jennie (Missouri Quilt Store) makes – 2 10″ squares rst, 1/4″ seam all the way around – then cut on both diagonals! Easy-Peasy.
I am working on a quilt now using Kona Solids , not Layer Cakes , but I am sure I could surely use them!
I haven’t used Moda’s Snow, but use the Kona all the time. I’m guessing they are about the same color and would love to try it out in a scrappy I’m working on. Layer Cakes I use as is or cut them down as needed, sometimes into four 5-inch charms, depending on the project. Thanks for the giveaway!
Love having odds and ends of neutrals to use up!
Thanks for the offerings!
I just made a “Layer Cake Lemonade” quilt top – super quick, easy, and cute!!!
I have not used layer cakes before. Congratulations to the winners.
I have never used a layer cake. There is a pattern on Missouri STar Quilter called Love Letters that uses layer cakes that I would like to try.
I have a quilt planned using HSTs, and the Snow Layer Cake would fit the bill!
it’s a blizzard here in Ossining, NY, and will continue through tomorrow. How can I not go for snow, and I always love the Kona solids. Thanks for the opportunity.
They are great for a pattern for a thread catcher I have, for triangles and this Layer Cake would be great for embroidery work for quilt blocks. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
HUGE HSTs
Snow would be perfect for the quilt I’m planning to make for my guest room. Thanks for the sweet giveaway!
I’ve never used a layer cake, but I think that they would be great for quilts because each square could be cut into such a variety of sizes. You could get coordinated strips, charms, and mini-charms without having to purchase separate charm packs and jelly rolls, or a ton of yardage, plus you could leave the occasional piece full size for more variety. Thanks for the chance to win.
I always use snow for backgrounds rather than white. I’m desperately in need of some to finish off some placemats.
I love half square triangle quilts. I use layer cakes frequently! The large squares make putting together a large quilt simple and fast. A little sashing and voila!
I haven’t had the chance to use a layer cake yet…but I would pair this SNOW with the PB&J fat quarter bundle I have that’s just waiting to be cut into! Thanks for the chance to win.
I want to make a new Christmas table cloth and curtains, and that layer cake would fit right in! Thanks.
Love Kona Snow and love layer cakes. You are sew generous!
I could use it for the chevron quilt I’m making. 🙂
I’ve never used a layer cake before, but it seems like they would speed up putting certain blocks together.
And I love “snow” – – such a nice alternative to stark white.
I have one layer cake now, and this would work great with it…. thanks for the giveaway
Kona Snow is such a great color, so many uses. Love the layer cakes, they can be used whole or cut into various shapes and sizes., and save lots of time. I have a pattern for lots of flying geese blocks, and these would be perfect for the size I need.
I would make a quilt for my baby boy!
I have never owned or used a layer cake, but I can imagine that I would use it in a all solids quilt. That is also one thing I have never made before, but that’s a must do!
how funny! thanks for the giveaway!
I mostly seem to stash them, but lately I’ve been thinking that giant pinwheels would be really fun with them. Thanks for the chance!
Precuts are my all time favorites. I have made several quilts with layer cakes. Most recent a chevron quilt. Would love to win this. Woop
Layer cakes are wonderful! I haven’t worked with much, but I always find something to do with them. Something like this would be lovely! http://farmfreshfabrics.com/pathway-pdf-pattern/
Thank you for another great giveaway!
I appreciate having the smaller pieces to work with : ) Thanks so much
I would like to do a quilt with large half square triangles. A layer cake would save some cutting!
i like to use layer cakes in my quilts. There isn’t as much cutting to do. I love the Snow Kona solids.
Funny your giveaway is for white cake layers… I currently have a bundle of cake layers in a spring print (forget the name) and with so many colors in the prints… white would be the perfect contrasting color to use! Thanks for the drawing
I’ve never used a layer cake, but I can imagine using the squares as a background for embroidery.
To be honest, I love breaking layer cakes up and using them in my scrappy quilts to help modernize them! It would be tempting to keep this one altogether though!
I have not used Layer Cakes yet but I am sure the Kona solids can be used with fabrics that I already have.
I have made several lap quilts from layer cakes. I usually choose a pattern with some pieces that are about 6″ to show off the prints and some smaller pieces to use up the rest of the layer cake squares. Instead of just using the layer cake prints I also mix in a bunch of stuff from my stash to make it my own and to be able to make the quilt the size I want.
Love the Kona solids, only have used their yardage. I would cut the layer cake to make pinwheels, or cut into strips, or something new, have to wait for the inspiration lol
Oh Layer Cakes are grand! I have the perfect quilt pattern for these squares: makes half squares and flying geese. Pick Me!
Love Layer Cakes…………would work great with a Layer Cake I already have……thanks for the chance at the five-year…..
Quite honestly I have never used a layer cake before but I think it would speed up the process to make a quilt top. Thanks for the chance!!
I love to make quilts with them, and my quilts always have white! This would be such a blessing and time saver. I am about to begin a layer cake sampler. Thanks for another great giveaway!
Recently discovered Kona Snow and absolutely love it! I too have “stolen” a few pieces so I know that feeling well! Making a quilt top right now using layer cakes…slices go very far and are oh so satisfying! Thanks for the chance to win this!
I love to make quilts with layer cakes, and Moda snow is a perfect complement to the many layer cakes I have lying in wait to become quilts.
I would like to try a quilt I saw in a blog I follow!
Thanks for the giveaway,
Jacqueline in Pitt Meadows
I like to make fast patchwork quilts with precuts! They turn out nicely because I didn’t mess up cutting! :0)
So many background possibilities with Snow!
I love to use layer cakes for bee blocks, if they are the right color! Thanks for the chance!
SNOW is my favorite colour of Kona solids. I am new to Layer Cakes, but I’m a fan of large pieces in quilts, so I think I’d love it to use in a quick quilt!
