This summer I had fun playing around with a Sizzix Fabi Personal Die Cutter.
Here’s what I did to test it out:
To use the die, you simply fold the fabric and place it on top of the cutting pad, then sandwich it between the two plastic safety plates.
Hand crank it through the machine and voila! Perfect shapes every time!
Comfortable that I knew how this machine worked, I was ready to try it out on some circles backed with fusible web. (This is for my upcoming Abacus Quilt Along which I mentioned in yesterday’s post.) I thought, if this can work for machine applique, I may never go back to using scissors!
To make the job easier, I ironed strips of paper backed fusible web to the back of my chosen fabrics. I cut each strip about an inch wider than the die. I then rough cut them into squares before running them through the machine. There seemed to be less waste cutting this way.
I stacked 3-4 layers of fusible backed squares and fed them through the machine. Oh. My. Gosh. That was so fast!
Now I have a pile of perfect circles, all ready to be made into a quilt!
Try It Out

I liked Sizzix in facebook this morning!
I liked sizzix and followed them on facebook. Loved some of the ideas out there.
I am not on FB anymore but I did go to my husband’s site and followed it there ! I wonder if he will get comments about it ? I love the way those circles came out, fabulous ! And it looks so easy, I could use other shapes too. So yes, I would love a Sizzix, I do wonder how they came up with that name though. I was talking to a woman who makes a living with her applique and she said she uses washable glue for all her applique. I have started using it too, good old Elmer’s School glue. Thanks for the opportunity to win something so wonderful for my quilting.
I don’t love appliqué because of all the cutting! This might make me change my mind! Ps. I liked them on FB

I have been looking at Sizzix for a while, thanks for a chance to win one.
following them on Facebook; they have some very creative ideas. I never thought of the machine cutting the material after the fusible being applied, fantastic that it will cut thro that. Having one would make me love cutting out circles, which I generally don’t do just because it is not easy to make nice smooth circles with scissors.
I have liked Sizzix on Facebook.
What a great tool for my appliqué projects! Love it and I have “liked” Sizzix on Facebook. kathleendotlutzatcomcastdotnet

I have a Sizzix Big Shot, which is an older version. They only seem to differ in the name, but I am so glad they’ve come out with the Fabi as I’m sure it means new dies! But I did ‘like’ them on FB. I like that with the Sizzix cutters, I can also use Accuquilt dies. They are fabulous for fusible applique and for making felt flower hair doo-dads for my little girl and her friends!
I liked, them well was doing so already!!
