It’s time for another giveaway! As with all of the giveaways I’m hosting during my Abacus Quilt Along, you do not have to follow along to participate in the giveaway. Everyone is welcome to comment and enter for a chance to win.
Beautiful Aurifil threads I used in my version of Abacus.
Up for grabs this week: A bundle of beautiful 50 weight Aurifil cotton threads! One lucky winner will receive 8 small spools of the same exact colors I used for the machine applique on Abacus; plus a large spool of the same grey I used for the machine quilting.
Click here for a listing of the exact colors of threads and fabrics I chose.
Machine quilting is my favorite part of making any quilt – it’s quick, easy, and fun!
To enter, simply leave a comment letting me know what you think about machine applique! Do you love it or hate it? Or are you somewhere in between? You can also mention your favorite method of applique if you like. 🙂
Good luck!

I am new to machine appliqué , soak excited to learn more while doing this quiltalong. I have done one turned applique quilt, won’t be doing that again…it was 172 flower petals!
I’ve never done machine appliqué, only fusible (and if I really had to, traditional).
All the colors you chose are very pretty. I like to appliqué both by machine and hand. Thank you for the give away would be fun to win😊
I’ve only done hand applique. I’m afraid of messing up machine applique.
I enjoy doing machine appliqué whether it is fusible raw edge or turned edge. I love it even more when I have threads that match the fabrics I am using to make it appear even more invisible.
I’m doubting about machine embroidery applique and the freehand on the longarm, have time to make decissions plenty of Ufo’s, quilting mostly using aurifil in the bobbin, thanks for this giveaway
I haven’t tried it much, but plan to really soon! I like buttonhole the best for hand appliqué.
i don’t mind machine applique and have used it on specific projects. it can be tricky, but really adds a punch when done right!
I used to hate it, but I am “kind of” enjoying it now. I can’t wait to see all of the Abacus quilts popping up.
I love machine appliqué!!! I’m vary impatient & want my project finished yesterday!!! Oh & I have arthritis & hand work is difficult!! Would love to win this awesome giveaway!!!!
I love applique. Just don’t seem to have enough time to do all I want to do.
Love machine applique!! And love Aurifil for it!!! Pick me!!
Beautiful colors!!! I would love to have them!!!
I love,love,love machine appliqué!
I love the look of appliqué but I haven’t really practiced. Machine appliqué is on my list to learn since I have several projects is like to do.
I like machine appliqué, it is quick and neat. Thanks for sharing.
I prefer hand applicay’s look but do both.
I prefer hand applique. If I could do the machine kind better…I’ll stick with the hand applique.
I just did some of my first machine applique last year on quilts for my grand kids. It’s fun and looks awesome! I like to hand applique also. It’s all so pretty! 🙂 Thanks so much for your generous giveaway! 🙂
I like to do machine appliqué , with buttonhole stitching.
I’ve only been doing machine applique by machine for just over a year and I must say that it was LOVE at the first stitch! I used to do all my applique by hand but now it’s about 50/50. Machine applique certainly goes faster!
Love those Aurifil colors. I have quite a few but none in this colorway. Thanks for the opportunity to win them!
I’ve never tried hand applique, but I do like machine applique.
I like machine applique as long as the edges are not raw. Hate that!
I just love to hand appliqué and always have an appliqué piece on the go. I find it is relaxing in front of the TV or when I’m travelling.
Only done a limited amount of machine applique but I’m sure I would love to do some hand applique. Seems like it would be a very creative “next step” for me! Thanks for the awesome giveaway! akronne17 at gmail dot com
I haven’t done much applique yet, but I usually prefer machine anything so…probably that 🙂
Some where in between love the look of hand but enjoy the speed of the machine
My favourite thing about machine appliqué? The fact that my hand appliqué is so dreadful, that in comparison, the machine version is so much better, so much faster, and there’s so much less swearing required!!!
Every time I see a quilt I want to make that has applique, I think I will do it by machine. But then as I collect the fabrics I decide to do hand applique instead. I just like the look of the hand applique more than I like machine applique.
the only applique i do is by machine; i won’t say i love it but the results sure are lovely.
At times I LOVE applique…especially on a special quilt. For this owl quilt, it was a TON of applique…it all depends on the project. If you go to this link, here is a picture: http://susanisaacson.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-owls-having-been-talking-to-me.html
I’ve only done hand appliqué but I’ve been wanting to try machine!
I’ve only ever done hand appliqué but want to try machine soon!
I love aurifil thread and had been using it for years for hand sewing because I like how thin it is and then I started using it for piecing and quilting on the machine. As for appliqué which I do on my machine somedays it just goes perfect and I have no problems and other times not so good. I use a blanket stitch for all my machine appliqué and have learned to slow down and some days to just walk away from it too. I do like that I can match any fabric with a spool of aurifil thread.
I love machine appliqué but I sometimes try hand appliqué, I’m just not that great with the hand appliqué. Great colors of Aurifil, I’d be thrilled to try it, I’ve heard so many wonderful reviews. Thank you, Toni Anne
I’m fairly new to quilting, so haven’t had much experience with applique. I enjoyed making the only four fusible applique cornerstones I’ve ever made. I have no experience with hand applique
I am way too lazy to hand-applique! LOL. Nice job!
I love machine applique, I used to only do hand applique and then started machine and now I’m doing it mostly.
I have not tried any applique projects yet, but I certainly do love the look of it. I think I would quite enjoy machine applique, and can’t wait to try it out!
I love machine appliqué – I do it more than piecing projects.
I love applique. It doesn’t matter to me if it’s machine, hand stitched, reverse etc it’s all good. Each of them has their use for different projects and different effects.
have always loved hand applique and fell in love with machine applique after taking a guild class with Sue Nichols!
I really Luke machine applause. I am working on realistic applique in my next project.
I love appliqué, both by hand and machine.
I enjoy applique – I have used the raw edge and scribble type black stitching around the edges, and I use my mini blanket machine stitch on other pieces – also like hand applique but don’t have the time to do that much.

I have never hand appliqued but I am doing a BOM with machine applique and it is really fun. It looks good too. I will try more.
I’m about to do my first mavpchine appliqué. Wish me luck.
I love machine applique and also love to hand applique.
I love machine applique. One of these days I want to learn to do hand applique. Thanks for the giveaway.
I love machine applique. I am getting ready to take a class on decorative stitching machine applique.
