My 2014 word of the year was Quilt, and boy did I take that to heart with my 2014 finishes. I think I made more quilts last year than I have in a long time and it felt wonderful!
For 2015 I came up with a phrase that will be my mantra for the year – Be More Present.
These 3 are my pride and joy. I want to be more present for them!
As I continue to juggle the work/life balance, I want to be more involved and invested in everything I do. If I’m hanging out with the kids, I want to really be there (not thinking about the gazillion quilts I want to design and make).
If I’m teaching a workshop, I want to be fully ready ahead of time so I can focus on my students’ needs and be prepared to adapt the class if needed. When I’m trail running with Jason, I will enjoy the ambiance, rather than thinking about how hard it is to run up hills!
Our kids joined us on a recent trail run. We love the desert where we live!
We also came up with a family phrase – “be more adventurous,” and I think the two will go hand in hand. We’ve got a lot of fun family trips planned (Disneyland, lots of skiing, Hawaii & California beaches), plus Jason and I have signed up for a few trail races (there’s nothing like deadlines to keep me motivated)!
My daughter and hubby on a recent ski trip – we want to be more adventurous!
I’ll also be doing a lot more quilting-related travel this year. I think that if I can be more present at home, I’ll be able to be more adventurous when I’m out and about. That’s the plan, anyway!!
How about you? Have you coined a word or phrase for the year?

A phrase, no. A word, yes – focus. Whatever I’m doing, focus on that. Narrow my line of site so I’m not an eclectic butterfly flitting around getting nothing accomplished. It’s a lot like your phrase. Be here, be doing this. Great post, wonderful picture.
Being in this moment is a great goal, it is one I strive for as much as possible. I think you are going to have a great year.
Mine is “Create”…
My word for the year is ‘focus’ – on everything little AND big thing.
This is a great post. Your goals are so well thought out, clearly meaningful. It will make for a great 2015 for you and your family. Love the trail running picture of your kiddos. Mine is Relax. I need to relax and not get stressed about every little thing. Now how do I move that into a realistic goal?? Happy New Year Christa. Love your blog and your style. I have learned quite a bit by following you.
Some other blogger said her mantra for the year is “Less is More” and I kind of like that one. I like your suggestions too. I think mine might be something like “Enjoy this moment” or “Do more quilting/jewelry making and less housework.” I have been trying to clear out the debris in my life and that is always difficult, but I feel I am on the right path. I am very excited about this 70th year in my life, I feel this year is bringing some big changes to me.
Definitely a great phrase…I have been thinking about that a lot in the last 6 months. It is something I definitely have been trying to do more often, especially with my son. Making time for them is also something I strive to do next year…our lives get so busy!!
My thought for the year follows yours……”aware”…..time has a way of slipping by in ‘chunks’ that become lost forever! Being ‘present’ and ‘aware’ of each precious moment is my goal.
Thanks for sharing your phrase for 2015! I have decided on the word: Delight!
Christa, loved reading about your family and phrase of the year. My goal is to ORGANIZE my home and crafts!!! It needs it desperately! I have multiple interests and crafts and bounce back and forth. They have taken over most rooms of my home now in one way or another. My hubby would put that into a phrase like this, “Throw it out!”. LOL! God Bless! Happy New Year. Peg
