Are you following along with The Splendid Sampler? If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s the most epic, “sew-lebrity” filled sew along (of all time), consisting of 100+ free block patterns, designed by 83 pattern designers, shared twice week, for an entire year!!!

Just a few of the 80+ Splendid Sampler designers at Spring Quilt Market 2016.
For those of you making blocks either physically with the group (or virtually in your head), the 50th block releases this week! Isn’t that exciting?? Although I’m not going to spoil tomorrow’s surprise, the designer of block #50 is Joanna Figueroa of Figtree Quilts. I’ve seen the block, and let me tell you – it is Splendid!!

My Splendid Block
You may recall my block, Scrappy Happy Heart, below, which was released back in May. Click here to learn more about my block! It’s been exciting watching so many people making my paper pieced block design and sharing their work. The biggest comment I’ve seen on Instagram (#scrappyhappyheart) and in the Splendid Sampler Facebook group is that my block is the perfect block for those who have never paper-pieced before and want to try out an easy block. That warms my heart!!

My Scrappy Happy Heart Block
To celebrate The Splendid Sampler halfway point, hosts Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson are teaming up with many of the Splendid Sampler designers with bonus blocks, fun giveaways, free patterns, and maybe even a little “behind the scenes” of the project.

Free Pattern for Splendid Friends
For anyone new to my blog, I invite you to get this free PDF quilt pattern of my Puzzle Box design just for stopping by and signing up for my email newsletter.

But wait…. there’s more!!

Book Giveaway for Splendid quilters
I’m also giving away a copy of the brand new collaboration book, 180 Doodle Quilting Designs. This book was compiled by Martingale/That Patchwork Place, the same folks who will be publishing The Splendid Sampler book once the blocks are all complete! (They have also published both of my quilting books, so I might just be a little bit biased!!)

180 Doodle Quilting features designs from several talented friends, including Splendid Sampler designers Melissa Corry, April Rosenthal, and yours truly! Perhaps this book will help you decide how you want to quilt your blocks when they are all finished!
For your chance to win, just leave a comment below letting me know if you’ve ever participated in a block of the month/week/day type program before. If so, tell me what you loved about it!
This contest is open to everyone worldwide. I’ll pick one US winner who will win a physical copy signed by me, and one international winner who will receive an e-copy.
The contest will close Aug 15th and I’ll ship it to you by the end of the month. Thanks for stopping by!!
Love BOM programs 🙂 Thanks it’s always a knew challenge!!
I only started quilting a few months ago so I’m doing my first BOM right now, it’s called Maggie’s First Dance and so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s lots of fun to get the new block and spend a few days working on it without it being a big project that you feel you have to work on all the time to get it finished.
I started 2 but not finished them yet need to get back to them.
I am having a lot of fun doing the Splendid Sampler never done small blocks that is way I’m doing SS so far so good. I’ve got 48 done and 7 Bonus . Would love to win your book Thanks
I’ve done a few BOM. The best part is the surprise every month. I’d rather do a mystery one than know the pattern.
I love BOM’S…I usually just hoard the patterns for a later time…I know I’ll have time in the future, right?!?
Tks for the giveaway…
Thanks Christa for your amazing work! I have loved participating in two Block of the Months with my local Quilt Shop, because it helps me pace myself, meet new friends and stir up creativity!
I have done several BOMs offered through my local quilting store. The splendid sampler is the first that I have done online. I find that they provide excellent opportunities to try new blocks without committing to a full quilt.
This is the first time I have signed up for any type of BOM or sew-along with others and I love it. Just wish I had more blocks completed but I’m not giving up.
I’ve participated in BOMs at my local quilt shop before, but this is my first on-line one!
I have participated in a few BOMs locally and online. Sure have loved this one and also seeing the beautiful blocks others have made. Quite the inspiration. Thank you for the opportunity to win this amazing book.
I usually participate in a few BOM’s every year. This year I am doing The Splendid Sampler, In Our Garden, Bee-utiful QAL, and a few others. Thanks for the draw.
I like BOM’s….I’ve participated in a few, and what I like is that you have a month to work towards your goal of finishing just one piece of a puzzle that will be beautiful at the end.
I have done BOM’s online and at my local quilt shop.
I have participated in 3-4 BOM. Love them and love seeing everyone’s color choices!
I have participated in BOMs before through a local quilt store. This is my first on-line one though!
Previously participated at local Bernina store, and currently am up to date with the Summer Sampler, Splendid Sampler and Busy Medallion Quilt – lucky to finally be able to sew daily!!!
I’ve done a BOM before and loved it. The variety and camaraderie are fantastic. Thanks for having the giveaway.
The Splendid Sampler is the first quilting ‘club’ I’ve done. With two little ones, I knew that one of the BOMs where I had to complete a block a month and show up to the meeting was out of the question. The Splendid Sampler has been perfect for me since I can go at my own pace and pick ‘n choose which ones I want to do. I have, however, purposely tried some of the blocks where I don’t know how to do, so that I can expand my technical skills horizons. Besides, it’s always fun to try something new when you’re not under pressure to do it perfectly!
As for your give-a-way, thank you for your generosity! I recently got a long arm and am excited to try out some new techniques, especially space fillers. Your book would be a great resource for trying a new pattern. Thank you!
I did a block swap a few years ago when I first began quilting. Patterns were sometimes offered as a starting point and other times we just did what we wanted under certain quidelines. Also, our LQS has had a number of BOM programs and I’ve done a couple of those. They helped to keep me on track which I find helpful when I am trying to accomplish something.
Thank you! I’m way behind. Your blck is my next one!
I have never participated in a BOM but it is definitely on my “quilty bucket list.” Thank you for the opportunity to win a book that I am sure will be a source of inspiration for me.
Thanks for sponsoring a give away and also thanks for the Puzzle Box quilt pattern. I have done BOMs but never finish them. I buy all the components but go off on a tangent with other projects, thus lots of UFOs. I am doing the SS but it will take longer than 1 year due to life! I am doing a BOM block exchange online and that is working very well! I love your books!
I love blocks of the months as it keeps me from developing UFO’s (sometimes!) I have never done a block of the week, or two blocks a week as in the Splendid Sampler. It is so much fun to see what everyone else is doing with their blocks!
I’ve been quilting for 24 years now, and believe it or not, this is my first block-of-the-month. I absolutely love the variety, the embroidery blocks are a great take-along project, and my needle-turn applique has improved tremendously. Many thanks to Pat, Jane, and all the designers who contributed. I look so forward to Sundays and Thursdays!
The Splendid Sampler is my first QAL / BOM! I’ve collected blocks and patterns from other BOMs and while I’ve gawked over the lovely creations and interpretations I’ve never participated before now. I’ve enjoyed most of my Splendid journey — some anxiety with applique and embroidery but grateful for the learning experience. And, yes, your block was a wonderful intro to paper piecing — thank you!
Hi there! I have participated in a few other BOM, but they have not been anything like the Splendid Sampler, with regards to just the number of quilters who are part of the project and the sheer volume of images I have seen since this whole thing began! Thanks for the chance to win!
I have done BOM with my local quilt shop and have loved learning new techniques and color ways. There are show and tells which are always encouraging. The Splendid Sampler is a fun one because I am learning even more new things!
I am a new quilter (since January!), and Splendid Sampler is my first quilt along. I love the surprise of seeing the new posts and all of the encouragement and technique tips from the designers. Thanks for all of your work!
I haven’t participated in one yet but I’m saving the blocks from splendid sampler &Jacquelyn Steves’ newest BOM to tackle someday soon!
Yes I have participated in quilt alongs before but never one so far reaching and big! I love the fact that so many people have joined in the fun and post their blocks to inspire the rest of us. The many designers also have added such a variety of creativity for our learning…thank -you!!
BOMs keep me inspired, and give me something to look forward to. An opportunity to try something new that I might have passed up otherwise. Thanks for the chance to win a great book…always looking for new designs.
I am participating in a BOM right now and what I like about it is that I have a month to complete each block and at the end I have a beautiful quilt. Also it is fun to get a new block pattern each month..
Yes I have participated in several BOM clubs! Dont like Mystery BOM’s though
Yes! I love the whole process, picking out fabric, cutting, putting the blocks together- just need more practice on my quilting!
I am currently doing Pat Sloan’s Secret Garden BOM and when I get a chance, I squeeze in a Farmers Wife block in here and there.
I am surprised to say I’ve never done a block of the month before. I think I’m all about getting it done fast, so this has been a fun change. Thanks for the giveaway!
Hi Christa. I have participated in a few online QALs including this one and Katja’s Marek’s New Hexagon Millefiore. I love thinking about all the other people all over the world doing the same lovely thing I am doing. It just makes the world seem like a nicer place!
I’ ve involved in block of the month programs at my local quilt club.
I have finished 5 BOM. I really enjoy them for learning new techniques, different color versions than I usually pick and the month “deadline” helps me keep moving along!
BOMs are just plain fun!
I have never done a BOM. Seems like I am always in the middle of something I want to finish when opportunities presented themselves. Maybe one of these days . . . I think I am probably missing something I would enjoy! Thanks for the giveaway!
I haven’t done a BOM but I do dream. I want to find time to do a mystery quilt; I think that would be so much fun. Your scrappy heart block looks really pretty. I like the idea that one doesn’t really know what the end result will look like.
I have never participated in any type of BOM. The Splended Sampler is my first. I am enjoying following the whole process and completing those blocks that I can. Thank you for introducing this on your blog!
I have been quilting for 2 years now and have participated in six block of the month programs, so far. I love doing them and the most exciting part that I love is waiting to see what is next, not to mention all the new things I have learned over my two years of obsession!
This is my first quilt ever. So, my learning curve is out of this world. I love everything about it. I love the introductions to designers, new techniques, lots of tutorials and tips and a wonderful community. While I am WAY behind….simple things still take me a very long time because I am learning….I so enjoy the process. What a great gift!
this is only my second time participating in something like this. I kept up the first time, this time, not so much…
Oh, yes! My first quilt was a BOM through Jo-Ann Fabrics. I had a week-long training for work out of town so I took my sewing machine and a bunch of blocks and spent evenings quilting and listening to an audio book. I was so disappointed when the training was done and I had to go home! I love the variety of blocks in sampler BOMs and enjoy the challenge of something new. Thank you for your contribution to this sampler, it was a fun block to do.
I have completed two BOM by Jacquelynnesteves Steves, three Craftsy BOM plus participating in the splendid sampler. Loving everything.
oh yes! My first quilt was a block of the month through JoAnn Fabrics. I had a week long training session out of town so I took my sewing machine and the blocks I hadn’t finished and spent evenings learning how to quilt. I was disappointed when the weekend came and I had to go home! I’ve done three more since then — one is completed and I kept, one partly done and is for my daughter (who requested it, and the third is not even opened yet (some day!), but it’s beautiful and I had to have it. I love the great variety of blocks in sampler BOMs and the opportunities to learn new skills
I have enjoyed doing some BOM’s, usually with a quitl shop and I am able to pace myself. The BOM’s online can get hectic and I have to work a lot harder to stay on top of things. The Splendid Sampler is one of those but I have loved seeing others work and all the ideas they bring to the pattern.
This is my very first block of the month experience, and I am grateful to have some beautiful ideas and blocks to work with. Thank YOU for your contributions to our experience.
