Candy Pop is the 9th (out of 12) quilt patterned in my book Machine Quilting with Style. I was so happy to include a machine applique design. Truth be told, I really, really like machine applique and would love to one day do a book of modern machine applique designs. The problem? I can’t draw very well. But I can create easy geometric shapes like circles!

If you cut carefully while making this design, you’ll have several pieces leftover that you can throw on the back. I love making artful pieced backings whenever I can!

I think I could recolor every design I’ve ever made into black and white and be a happy camper! For some reason, this version of candy pop reminds me of Chinese lanterns:

I am currently handquilting my quilts.
I quilt all of my own quilts on a domestic machine (Bernina 880). I want to say I AM a quilter, not just a “piecer”. Also, I don’t like to spend the money to have it quilted. I’d rather use that money on more stash!!
So far I have done Quilt as you Go using mostly straight lines on my Brother sewing machine.
I quilt my quilts with my Bernina, but I have a couple queen sized quilts in the works that I probably will have to find someone to quilt for me.
My favorite way to quilt is on my sit down machine.
I love to FMQ, but I’m starting to practice the more intricate ways I can use my walking foot to make spirals, circles, etc. Love the designs!
I discovered free motion quilting by machine a couple of years ago and I love to do this using my Singer treadle sewing machine. This was gifted to me on my 21st birthday by my mum who had received it on her 21st birthday as a present from her new husband, my dad. All these years later, and I have found it to be the perfect way to sit and quietly treadle away at a quilt top.
I have been quilting mostly by check! Only have done one quilt by straight line quilting on my domestic machine but really want to give FMQ A try. Maybe 2017 will be my year! Love your color ways.
I have quilted some by check. Someday I hope to have a long arm machine but don’t have room for one right now. I do some quilting on my domestic machine as well.
I usually quilt by hand, listening to the radio…have yet to try quilting by machine! The candy pop quilt is pretty and can vary a lot by colourways…

I quilt on my Bernina 350. As a new quilter, I leapt into free motion quilting right away – I probably did better when I really didn’t know what I was doing! I recently made a quilt for a friend’s first granddaughter and went back to straight-line with my walking foot. It felt so satisfying to finish it, without the “worry” of free-motion fears! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’ll be in Vegas in December, but not soon enough to take a class with you – on my bucket list!
I quilt on my Baby Lock Aventura but I recently have learned to hand guide a longarm and to run a computerized design on a longarm.

I’m the worst…..I have a Bernina 880SE and I still don’t quilt my own quilts. I am petrified to do it, knowing it will come out terribly. I pay a very talented woman to do an amazing job quilting my quilts.
I love quilting with my Bernina 830, so of course I’m sitting.
Mostly by check. I have tried to machine quilt a few small ones. I need to keep practicing, but the big ones will still go to the longarmer. Thanks.
I love hand quilting my quilts but I can only work on them in the winter. (I quilt in a hoop, with the rest of the quilt over my lap.) I have started quilting smaller quilts on my machine, but struggle with anything other than straight line quilting. I have had one quilt done by “check” and love it, but can’t afford to do that often.
