Pinwheel Quilts from Class
I used Craftsy’s Boundless precut strips in three different color schemes to make the 3 full-sized pinwheel quilts shown in class. With careful cutting you can actually make 2 quilts from each set, or make one larger version. The free pattern will be included exclusively as part of the class.

The Navy/30’s Pinwheels (with walking foot quilting) was made from 30’s prints and navy solids. I actually show two versions of this quilt in class, the finished red/white/blue version shown above, plus the pastel version shown below. I separated the precut 2 1/2″ strips into two color schemes to make both quilts. I used a contrasting thread on the pastel version that I actually quilt on during class, so you can see what I’m doing.

For the Pink/White pinwheels, I free-motion quilted a fun and easy edge to edge design that gives the quilt lots of texture. This is a fast way to finish that looks amazing on your quilt!
During class, I teach many more quilting motifs than shown in these three samples, but I still quilt them on real blocks so you can see how the designs will look before you commit to a full quilt. For the pink/white version I used some of the leftover solid pink strips to make a scrappy binding. I think it adds such a fun look to a quilt!

For the grand finale, I show how to combine both walking foot and free-motion techniques to create a truly custom look with your quilt, as shown in the Teal/Gray Pinwheels quilt.
There’s plenty of leftover pieces in each bundle that you can use to whip up sample blocks to practice on like I did. It always amazes me how different a quilt can look, once it’s quilted!

My goal is for you to not only learn the designs, but feel comfortable quilting them on any quilt. I have taken some Craftsy classes. I like having the option to ask questions. I think my favorite thing is the flexibility in being able to watch them anywhere. Through wi-fi or by downloading a class, I can watch from my couch, in my sewing room, or while I’m traveling.
I purchased a number of Craftsy classes and love them! The fact that I can take them anytime, anywhere is really awesome because I work full time and I’m not always able to get away for a full day of class on the weekend.
I’ve taken one piecing and one quilting Craftsy class. They’ve both been great. I love that I can revisit them anytime.

Craftsy classes are the best way to take classes for me. I work full time, so I can take the classes at my own pace. Their interactive platform where students can actually contact the instructor directly is very helpful so you don’t feel lost when you have a question.

I have taken several Craftsy classes and really enjoy the tips the instructors include. Being able to go at my own pace and rewind if necessary is so beneficial. I love this platform. I’m excited to try your class.
Ialso use the Craftsy classes like a library book. When I need reminding of a technique, I can go back and look at that bit. Love the stop and play, and often have one running when I sew as a bit of back ground teaching as a change from a podcast. Being able to ask questions is a wonderful part of the system.
I have used Craftsy classes to learn new skills and improve others. The range of instructors is great and more than I could ever afford or travel to. The best part is the close camera work so I can see the details as the instructors demonstrate techniques. In person classes rarely allow such views. And the best, of course, you can review the class anytime in the future when those initial brain cells have gone on vacation!
I’m a regular craftsy user. I’ve bought a selection of dressmaking and quilting classes and have also learnt to crochet and improve my crochet skills. For some classes I’ve just watched them but not made whatever it is but have learnt so much and apply the techniques learnt in my sewing every day. 😃
The best part of the class is I can hit replay, stop and go at my own pace.
Haven’t tried a Craftsy class yet. One of these days I will.
I love Craftsy classes. Unlike classes or workshops at the LQS or at quilt shows, I can watch them over and over again, bookmark notes, rewind parts want to get a closer look, and watch sections or chapters when I only have a few minutes. I’m not committed to watching the whole course at one sitting (unless I want to) and even watch in on the go. Some of the instructors I’ll never likely to see at the major quilt shows in my area, LQS or guild, so the platform is much more valuable in the variety of instructors.
I’ve taken a couple of classes and have a couple more lined up to watch. I like being able to go at my own pace, see closeup details, and I usually pick up a pattern or two with the class. But being on Android it uses alot of my internet data so it costs more in the longrun

I have taken several Craftsy classes, and really like that I can access them any time of the day, replay all or part of the calss whenever I want, and that access to the class never expires. Great way to learn!!
I have taken several Craftsy classes. I like that I can take at my own pace and that I can download and watch later on even if I don’t have internet access.
I have many Craftsy classes – too many to count – in quilting, sewing and embroidery, both machine and hand. I love them as I can view them at any time and can repeat sections as I want. I find that they are well produced and very clear. Would love to do your class as machine quilting, particularly free motion, is my greatest concern.
I have signed up for several Craftsy classes but finding the time to work through them has been a challenge. Now that all the Christmas gifts are done and gone, maybe I need to make a commitment to finishing a class or two. I have watched several of the technique classes and enjoy seeing other people’s projects as they are working along. I’m really interested in doing your class and upgrading my FMQ skills.

I often take a Craftsy class to learn something specific, but later find myself referring back to another technique taught in the course that wasn’t immediately applicable. I really like being able to go back to a class when I need to refresh (and apply) what I learned.

Hi Christa Thanks for your blog, it’s very inspiring & fun to read! I’m a real fan of Craftsy classes & for fabric. I’ve taken a number (both quilting & art) and hope to be able to do more- it’s great to actually have a teacher that is encouraging, shows new techniques or even better,shows new methods to things that previously I found challenging/impossible to do. Having the different sections/ multiple projects in a class provides motivation for me to complete the project, so I can move on to the next section. My favourite classes are those where the patterns are provided ( rather than just generalized techniques ).

I have taken a number of classes from Craftsy; I enjoy having them for ideas and being able to refer back to the class whenever I need to.
I have been a member for a few years now and have learnt lots from the free classes and the paid classes. The thing I love about the classes is the fact I can take them when it suits me and review them if I need a refresher. I have a few on quilting quilts so I can finish my projects myself that are my favourite as I and now seeing progress on my FMQ.

I love the Craftsy classes! I have purchased several. I love the ability to slow the video down so I can more clearly see a certain stitch. (Sue Spargo’s class, for instance) I also like the ability to make notes as the video plays.
I did purchase a paper piecing class, but, haven’t watched it yet. So, I really haven’t taken a class, yet.
