The Splendid Sampler – The Journey Continues and a Celebration Giveaway

Happy Valentine’s Day! Have you been following along with The Splendid Sampler? The 100th and final block was released earlier in the week and to mark this tremendous milestone, there’s a huge giveaway to celebrate!

Splendid Sampler - Scrappy Happy Heart

My block contribution to The Splendid Sampler – Scrappy Happy Heart

The New Book

But before I get to the giveaways, there’s some exciting to share. Although the first stage of the quilt along has wrapped up, the journey isn’t over! The Splendid Sampler book releases in April!

Splendid Sampler Book

Click here to pre-order your copy of The Splendid Sampler.

Then in May, authors Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson will embark on phase two – encouraging new Splendid sewists to create one block a week from the book. So it’s never to late to join in – or if you started the quilt along and then set it aside to work on other things, you can re-join the fun!

For my stop, I’m giving away PDF copies of my latest pattern releases: Positive Direction and Stepping Stones.  (If you already own these, you can pick two others from my Craftsy pattern shop.)

To enter, leave a comment letting me know how many Splendid Sampler blocks you’ve made so far! (And yes, it’s okay to say “zero!”) Next Monday at the end of the day, I’ll randomly choose 2 lucky winners – one from the US and one International. I’ll email the winners and will update this blog post with their names on Tuesday.

At first I just loved the cute blocks and the surprise waiting every Sunday and Thursday. After I joined facebook group I loved meeting the nice and creative quilters all over the world. Thank you Pat, Jane and all the talented designers.

So far I made 64 blocks, and I just decided to stay with it and finish my quilt on a 8×8 grid, and later on to do the other blocks and use it in somethin else. Even this way I just loved the journey! It was so nice to find this wonderful group and so nice to be in touch with the work of this amazing group of designers! It was really a spkendid journey! Thanks

I truly enjoyed traveling all over the world, reading about each designer.. .their tips, challenges they over come and sharing a bit about their lives. Inspiration came from so many avenues and challenges were accepted many times over! Currently I’ve got about 37 of the blocks made and still have my little basket of stash handy at the machine to work on even more! They travel in a little plastic bag with me too for hand work , so I don’t think this project will go away for quite some time!

I am on block 91 so I am close to finishing and so excited to see how they are all coming together. I think I have chosen a layout for the entire quilt and look forward to free motion quilting for the finish! Thank you to all involved in the SS project.

Zero 😦 So far I have not been able to start the Splendid Sampler but I just recently retired and hope to start soon. I am anxious to learn paper piecing and I love small blocks! Thank you.

Maybe around 15. I was keeping up fine until we lost an employee at work and my hours doubled but everything has evened out now so I can get back on track. They are all saved on my USB stick.

I’ve made 4 of the sampler blocks. I was very late to the game and didn’t even hear about the sampler until January.

Hi Christa! I have made all 100 SS blocks and 9 of the bonus blocks. Will be designing my own bonus block for the final block as an embroidered Splendid Sampler 2016-2017 front label. So, 84 designers on my quilt! Lol!

I have 30 blocks completed and 19 blocks cut out that I will sew at a retreat next month. I want to select 7 or 8 more to make to finish my quilt.

I’ve done 117 – all 100 of the main blocks and 17 of the bonus blocks. I’m in the process of doing 3 butterfly blocks to round out an even 120. It’s been a process!

My 100 are done and pieced into a top 81″ square, Stella’s Splendid Sampler, made for my 20 month old grand-girl Stella. Yours was one of my favorite blocks.

I made all 100 blocks, 16 bonus blocks, and doubled up on 20 of the original 100, including making “Scrappy Happy Heart” in 5 color-ways!! I originally made 2 of your Heart block when it was released, and last week while designing the layout I needed more squares so decided that block was a good one to be in each quilt–my Sampler will be finished as 5 different wall hanging quilts, all with a heart!

With all the events happening last year, I think I only did one or two (at least they look like the ones I did in my “spare” time.)

hi – I have made all 100 blocks plus most of the bonus projects – it has been a very enjoyable journey. I am currently doing QAYG and have pieced 70 blocks together so far. Thanks for contributing.

I’ve completed 95 blocks and started the other 5, but have to finish the hand work on them. I’ve also made several of the bonus blocks as well.

Happy Valentines! I haven’t made any of the blocks. Busy working thru your books learning to FMQ and quilt with my walking foot–currently making a baby quilt (grandbaby due in May), and a Quilt of Valor.

I have made 85 blocks so far, plus a few of the bonus blocks. And some extra blocks because last summer I became obsessed with 6 inch blocks.

I haven’t done any of the blocks yet but have saved them all and hope to start making them soon. Thank all of you designers for doing this. It’s been fun getting all the blocks.

I got three done; well two and I used one pattern on a Christmas present so I’ll have to remake it, but hey, I got started at least. I have saved and printed every block, plus photos of people’s versions that inspired me. Plus I made documents of any special tips that the designers offered. Just checked and I have 1800 files for the 100 blocks! Might be a bit of overkill. Oh well, it’s been a great year. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day.

I have not made a single Splendid Sampler YET. But I have been following the progress of you and others and am so glad there will be a book! The timing has not been good for me this year but the book will be a permanent opportunity. Thanks for the giveaway! I have been drawn to Positive Direction in particular. Cotten.gloria@gmail.com
