In this week’s episode I share a little bit more about my Christa Cabinet that will be available from Arrow Sewing in May – I can’t wait!

I also share the tiniest hints about what’s coming next – new fabric and a new book – and I talk a little bit about my decision making process whenever it’s time to make a change.

I also mentioned that I’ve recently updated my sale section on my website. From time to time I add things to the category when it’s time to clear out space to make way for new things. This is a constant sale that never ends, and you don’t even need a coupon!

See that empty bottom row? It will be full soon! In the meantime, help me clear out some of my older fabrics! Click here for my fabric clearance sale, while supplies last.

If you enjoy my free video content and tutorials, you can say, “thanks!” by stocking up on your favorite Christa Quilt patterns. As we speak, I’m planning out the next batch of patterns for later this year (with new fabric to make them) and I can’t wait to show you more.

As always, thanks for reading and watching. I hope you have a great quilty week!

New Video Series and Updated Tutorial Schedule

I’m really having a ball making videos and sharing them over on my YouTube channel at ChristaQuilts.TV. I recently launched my DIY Quilting series, where I show you how to make a quilt from start to finish, and improve your machine quilting skills. I’ve updated my schedule for this series and it will now publish every other Wednesday at 10 AM Pacific Time.

On the alternate Wednesdays, I’ve decided to offer a new, informal series called “Christa’s Quilt Chat” where I’ll be chatting all things quilting, with different topics each week.

Keep in mind, this is NOT a live show. I actually tried that a few months back, but I couldn’t get the technology to work properly. The video was grainy, and I would lose signal event though we have a really strong internet connection. So I’ll be pre-recording these, but they’ll still be current and up to date with what’s happening in my quilty world.

My hope is to share more “behind the scenes” things that are going on, plus what I’m currently working on in real time. Think of it as a fun conversation with your BQF (best quilting friend), except that you don’t have to talk back, LOL!

When you share comments and questions on both videos series, I’ll reply to them in a timely manner, and it may open up more topics of conversation for the future.

Both of these shows will drop on Wednesdays at 10 AM Pacific Time on my YouTube channel, which is conveniently located at ChristaQuilts.TV. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out on all the fun!!

New Video Tutorial: Make My Hashtags Quilt from Start to Finish

Click the image below to play my latest quilting video tutorial showing how to make my Bling/Hashtags quilt from start to finish including piecing, basting, machine quilting, AND machine binding.

In the video, I show you how to quilt this this fun, foolproof quilting design below, called “Shattered Lines.” You can quilt it with your walking foot or dual feed system, and the best part is, there’s no wrong way to do it!

The quilting motif shown above is originally from my book, 99 Machine Quilting Designs. In the book I walk through how to quilt it on a smaller practice sample. But as you can see, it looks amazing when applied to a real, full sized quilt!

99 Machine Quilting Designs

Click here to grab your signed copy of 99 Machine Quilting Designs. It comes sprinkled with (invisible) quilting pixie dust which is guaranteed to make you a better quilter!

My Bling quilt pattern shown below comes in 3 sizes, with 5 different layouts to choose from, so you really can make this quilt uniquely your own!

Bling Quilt Pattern by Christa Watson

Isn’t it fun to see how different a quilt can look, just by using different fabrics and rotating the blocks? I used my Black, White & Bright collection from Benartex to make the Hashtags version, but it will look fabulous in any fabrics you choose, as long as you have good contrast. You can make it coordinated or scrappy, the choice is up to you!

My absolute favorite way to make a pieced backing these days is to combine leftovers in coordinating colors. Sometimes I’ll use the exact same fabrics as the front; other times I’ll use up larger chunks from my scrap bin. Because I love using my quilts, I enjoy having fun textures to look at on both sides!

I’m excited to post more of these “making of” videos each week, so stay tuned. And please let me know what you’d love to see more of!

Subscribe to ChristaQuilts.TV for New Video Tutorials Each Friday!

I’ve excited to share that I’ve just purchased the domain name ChristaQuilts.TV where you can watch all of my quilting videos on YouTube. This has been a long time coming and I’m thrilled to share new tutorials with you each and every Friday. They’ll drop around 7 AM Pacific Time, so that you’ll have new projects & techniques to work on each weekend!

Click here subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss a thing!

My plan is for each of these weekly videos to be about 20 minutes in length. That’s long enough to share my techniques, but not too long that you get bored with watching (hopefully not, anyway!!)

If you want to make the quilt exactly as shown above, click here to get the Hashtags quilt kit while supplies last. I’m using my original Bling quilt pattern with a new layout and enhanced pattern notes that are included.

In my latest video, I show you exactly how I made a walking foot quilting plan to quilt this incredibly dynamic, modern stitching design above, called shattered lines. This is one of the quilting motifs from my book 99 Machine Quilting designs and I was thrilled to actually quilt it on a real, full sized quilt.

One of the tips I like to share in my books, videos and workshops is that the MORE you quilt a quilt, the less you’ll see the individual stitches and that’s totally the case with this quilt.

I was able to use a ton of leftovers on the back of my Hashtags quilt. I combined scraps from the front along with some odd sized pieces of my Black, White & Bright fabric to create this secondary composition on the back. Here’s a bonus tip: put larger chunks of fabric around the edges, because those will get trimmed up the most!

I’m really pleased with how my quilt turned out and it’s oh, so cuddly! I hope you’ll consider making one, too. If you do, please tag me on social media @christaquilts and #blingquilt so I can see what you are up to!

Do It Yourself Quilting Video: Make a Quilt from Start to Finish!

I recently wrapped up my quilt along for my Blooming Wallflowers quilt. I took all of the individual quilt along videos, and edited them together into one longer video, showing how to make the entire quilt from start to finish. Click below to watch the full video tutorial; it’s just under an hour and shows every step of the process: cutting, piecing, basting, machine quilting, and binding:

Blooming Wallflowers Quilt – Front and Back

As soon as I finished my quilt, I took it outside to photograph, front and back. It was just as much fun sewing the back as the front!

When you make your version of Blooming Wallflowers, please be sure to share it on social media. You can tag me @christaquilts and use the hashtag #bloomingwallflowersquilt. It makes my day when others enjoy making my quilt patterns just as much as I do!

Teaching Update for 2022

It’s been a minute since I updated you all on my current teaching schedule. All I can say is that I’m thrilled to be out there among quilters again. It really fulfills me. I had a fabulous time teaching at QuiltCon earlier in February and I have an amazing line up of events coming over the next year or so.

View from a student’s machine during one of my quilting workshops at QuiltCon 2022

I tried the online teaching thing and didn’t love it. There’s a huge difference between releasing pre-recorded, highly edited videos on Craftsy or YouTube and conducting a live online class, so for now I’ll stick to in person teaching as much as possible. Don’t worry – there’s still plenty of free YouTube content coming, but these are more of a tutorial format than an interactive quilting class.

So, with all of that said, I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be the featured quilter at the upcoming Quilt Show for the Brazos Blue Bonnet Guild June 17-18, 2022. See details in the image below

Basically this means I get to hang out at the quilt show the entire time and give a couple of presentations. This is a new type of event for me and I’m looking forward to it. I can’t think of anything more fun than chatting with quilters all weekend. I’m pretty much an open book, so if you are planning to attend, be sure to stop by and shoot the breeze. The “hang out” time will be unscripted and fun!

The next event on the agenda is a lecture and workshop for the League of Northern Colorado quilters on August 1. If you are nearby, you can contact the group directly for signup info. After that, I’ll be heading over to Always in Stitches Quilt Shop in Noblesville, Indiana October 6-8. I believe the shop will be promoting signups soon so stay tuned.

I love teaching machine quilting and meeting so many lovely quilters in person!

And finally, here’s a super secret sneak peek announcement: I just got the unofficial word that I’ve been selected to teach at The International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas this fall. I’m really pleased because I was very disappointed last year when I had to cancel last minute due to some family illness. Knock on wood things are looking much better this year! I’ll have more details for you all as soon as the official announcement has been made. But the dates of the event will be November 3-6, 2022.

I’m booking more events into 2023 and you can keep track of my complete travel schedule here. I keep it updated on a regular basis so that I know where I’m supposed to be, and when! Be sure to leave me a comment if you plan to attend one of my events. I love putting a name together with a face when I travel. Meeting fun quilty friends in person is the best!!

Blooming Wallflowers Quilt Along Part 7 – How to Bind Your Quilt

How is your Blooming Wallflowers quilt progress going? This week is the last of the video tutorial series, showing how to make this fun quilt from start to finish. Click the video below to learn how to bind your quilt, using double fold, straight of grain binding. It’s the same process I use to bind ALL of my quilts!

Bonus Video: Binding by Machine

I finished my Blooming Wallflowers quilt by hand. However, if you’d rather finish quicker with machine quilting stitches, be sure to check out my earlier video tutorial below. I’m demonstrating two different methods of machine binding on my Color Weave quilt and also on my Infrastructure Quilt. Just remember, you can bind any way you want, because you are the boss of your quilt!!

Blooming Wallflowers Quilt Along Part 6 – Machine Quilting Tutorial with Quilting Plan

Machine Quilting is my favorite part of making a quilt and it all starts with making a quilting plan! Watch this week’s video below (about 15 minutes long) for my demo showing how I planned the quilting and then executed the design. Remember to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don’t miss a thing!!

Get My Aurifil Variegated Thread Set!

This is the thread that I used to quilt the entire quilt. It’s called Marrakech, #3817 and is part of my Variegated Thread collection from Aurifil. Because there’s so much thread on the spool, it only took 1 spool to quilt the entire quilt. And that includes the top and bobbin thread. In fact any of the threads in this set would look great on this quilt!

Get Blooming Wallflowers Quilt Kit or Pattern

If you are new to my blog, or my quilt alongs, it’s never to late to join in! You can grab the optional kit below (while supplies last), OR grab the Blooming Wallflowers quilt pattern and choose your own fabrics. This quilt is so fun to make, you’ll want to sew more than one!

Watch Last Week’s Spray Basting Video

In case you missed it, click play below to watch the previous segment: part 5 spray basting tutorial. If you haven’t tried this method yet, trust me – it will change your quilting life!

Share Your Work!

I like to say, “sharing is caring” so please post pics of your progress in my Facebook Group (see link below), or on social media using the hashtag #bloomingwallflowersquilt. I love to reshare and spread the quilty love!!

Get My Interlinked Quilt Kit in Neutrals or Colors!

I designed my Interlinked Quilt on a whim and fell in love with it, but wasn’t prepared for how much others would love it too. I originally released the pattern as PDF only, but it’s now available in print, too. Most of the original fabrics I used to make it are long since gone, but I created a couple of kit options in that I think you’ll love!

Get the Kit in Black & White, or Cool Colors!

I love recoloring my quilts in EQ8, using current fabrics I had on hand. I thought you might love them too, so I created a couple of quilt kits that you can grab, while supplies last:

Click here to grab the Interlinked quilt kit in Black/White & Gray.

The colorway above has only 3 fabrics, black, white and gray, but it is still high impact when it comes to graphic design. The hardest part about playing around with this design is there are soooo many possibilities to choose from!

Click here to grab the Interlinked quilt kit in white & shades of gray.

The coloring above is closer to the original version of Interlinked. That negative space gives so many opportunities for some fun machine quilting!!

Click here to get the Interlinked quilt kit in baby blues.

Isn’t it fun to see how different a quilt can look in other colorways!! The blue version above, or jade version below would add a touch of color to your sleek, modern decor.

Have you made one of these quilts yet? If so, be sure to share a pic on social media using #interlinkedquilt or in my ChristaQuilts group on Facebook. I always love to see what you are making with my patterns, fabrics, or kits!

Listen to My Fun Quilty Chat with Stephanie of Make & Decorate Podcast!

I love listening to quilty podcasts and chatting about quilting to anyone, anywhere, anytime!! So I was very pleased when Stephanie Socha of Make & Decorate invited me back on her podcast for some laughs and giggles!!

The quilts shown above are different versions of my Terrace Tiles quilt pattern.

Previous Interviews

This was actually my 3rd time on Stephanie’s podcast, and it really feels like we are long-time friends now! We talked about the time she rescued me when I was stranded in Chicago, and a bit about both of our adventures with AccuQuilt.

I also gave some teasers about my next fabric line and book, too! So click any of the links below to listen in, and be sure to subscribe to her podcast for more fun episodes!
