A Splendid Celebration!

Are you following along with The Splendid Sampler? If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s the most epic, “sew-lebrity” filled sew along (of all time), consisting of 100+ free block patterns, designed by 83 pattern designers, shared twice week, for an entire year!!!

Silly_Designers

Just a few of the 80+ Splendid Sampler designers at Spring Quilt Market 2016.

For those of you making blocks either physically with the group (or virtually in your head), the 50th block releases this week! Isn’t that exciting?? Although I’m not going to spoil tomorrow’s surprise, the designer of block #50 is Joanna Figueroa of Figtree Quilts. I’ve seen the block, and let me tell you – it is Splendid!!

My Splendid Block

You may recall my block, Scrappy Happy Heart, below, which was released back in May. Click here to learn more about my block! It’s been exciting watching so many people making my paper pieced block design and sharing their work. The biggest comment I’ve seen on Instagram (#scrappyhappyheart) and in the Splendid Sampler Facebook group is that my block is the perfect block for those who have never paper-pieced before and want to try out an easy block. That warms my heart!!

To celebrate The Splendid Sampler halfway point, hosts Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson are teaming up with many of the Splendid Sampler designers with bonus blocks, fun giveaways, free patterns, and maybe even a little “behind the scenes” of the project.

Free Pattern for Splendid Friends

For anyone new to my blog, I invite you to get this free PDF quilt pattern of my Puzzle Box design just for stopping by and signing up for my email newsletter.

Book Giveaway for Splendid quilters

I’m also giving away a copy of the brand new collaboration book, 180 Doodle Quilting Designs. This book was compiled by Martingale/That Patchwork Place, the same folks who will be publishing The Splendid Sampler book once the blocks are all complete! (They have also published both of my quilting books, so I might just be a little bit biased!!)

b1381_cover

180 Doodle Quilting features designs from several talented friends, including Splendid Sampler designers Melissa Corry, April Rosenthal, and yours truly! Perhaps this book will help you decide how you want to quilt your blocks when they are all finished!

For your chance to win, just leave a comment below letting me know if you’ve ever participated in a block of the month/week/day type program before. If so, tell me what you loved about it!

This contest is open to everyone worldwide. I’ll pick one US winner who will win a physical copy signed by me, and one international winner who will receive an e-copy.

The contest will close Aug 15th and I’ll ship it to you by the end of the month. Thanks for stopping by!!

I have participated in a Block of the Month for about 7 years. American Quilting in Orem,Utah has a block of the month program they call Saturday Sampler. Amy McClellan designs the amazing quilt each year. It is always a mystery – we never know until the 12th month how it is going to turn out.
I recently purchased my first long-arm machine. There is such a steep learning curve and I am interested in any inspiration and direction. Your book looks awesome.

I’ve done many BOM’s. I love the excitement of waiting for the next block or the little package of fabric to arrive in the mail!

Thank you for the chance to win. I participated in Mystery Quilt with my quilt guild. It was a fantastic opportunity to release my control, step outside my box, try new things, participate in a group activity with other quilters in my guild, to explore, create the unknown- it was great taking that chance not knowing specifically what I was making and really enjoying it.

I have done many block of the months and absolutely love them. It makes the project as a whole less daunting. I love the variety that’s out there, the patterns that arrive each month, and having a way to manage getting it together in a manageable space of time.

I am enjoying seeing each pattern. I have printed them and have them in a notebook. I have only made one block but have been so inspired to quilt that I have made three quilts and have two in progress. Working on learning how to do different patterns in machine quilting.

    Hi
I am participating in the Farmer’s Wife QAL run by Gnome Angel and the HST by Alyce Blyth. I did the circle quilt as a baby quilt, and the Christmas tree one that you had. I love seeing all the different fabric and interpretations that others in the quilting community have. I find the instructions very, very good. It is fun.

I did one block of the month years ago and really enjoyed it. I got behind in it too but finally caught up and was so pleased with the end result. Working on the Canada Mystery Quilt as well as the Spendid Sampler so its keeping me busy. Still a bit of a novice at machine quilting but enjoying the learning process.

I have done a couple of Block of the Month Sew alongs. I enjoy the slower pace and the techniques I have learned through making different blocks each time. I need to try the paper piecing eventually~

A few years ago I was part of a quilt block swap. I had such fun deciding on creative blocks with embroidery. It was also wonderful to see what others did. My mail box was like Christmas all year!

I have done a block of the month at a local quilt shop and it was fun to try new things sometimes out of my comfort zone! This is my first internet quilt along and it has been a blast! The camaraderie and friendship around quilting is amazing. The fact that it is FREE reminds me how really cool quilters are! What a great gift you have given us, thank you!

I have participated in a BOM before…more than once, actually. I usually fall behind, race to catch up/complete and am always so glad I took part. I’m sure this will be no different!

Splendid Sampler is my first BOM. I was doing great keeping up until lightning stuck our chimney and wiped out all our electronics. I am slightly behind at the moment. Your book looks great.

The Splendid Sampler is my first challenge that I have entered. I’ve been making quilts for 10 years now. I find patterns from a magazine or book and go to work. I do my own quilting and am looking to expand what I do.

Hi Christa, I’ve just been collecting the Splendid Sampler patterns but I do plan on starting it when we arrive back home this fall. I have done many BOMs over the years. I like them because it motives me to complete the current month’s work before the next month comes out. I’ve done a few where they mail the fabric to me each month and I love seeing that little package in the mail. I’ve also done some with my own fabric.

This is my first mystery quilt along and I have learned so much. I have made blocks that I never would have attempted to do on my own. I’m looking forward to the next 50 blocks!!

I participate in the HST QAL at Blossom Hearts but not a BOM program. Perhaps this is a similar idea though. I did one mystery quilt with a group on an online quilt board that turned out just great. The HST QAL is chance to use a very versatile block to create something I will love. I like to know what is the direction of any monthly block program in hopes that I will stay interested in making the project.

Participated in a lot of BOM and and a few BOW programs. What I like about them is saving time not phaving to look for patterns and fabric.

Hi 🙂 I’m actually one of the quilters who started paper piecing with your pretty block the scrappy heart. Thanks 🙂 I was thrilled! I want to make so many more hearts now!
I really love the Splendid Sampler and the chance to know so many more quilters and designers!

Only this year I’ve started partecipating to a block of the month kind of project. I’m doing the Secret Garden Block of the Month by Pat Sloan and the SPlendid Sampler.

What I enjoy the most is the challenge. I get the occasion to try new things 🙂

This is my first quilt along and am learning so many new things. I am getting better at paper piecing now, as well as embroidery and HST thanks to this sampler.

The Splendid Sampler is my first quilt-a-long. I’ve just started on my first Mystery Quilt from Meadow Mist Designs. My next challenge is to learn how to FMQ. So far I’ve been straight stitching all my projects. Thanks for the pattern and your splendid heart block.

I love the BOM concept and have participated in a couple of them. I like being able to just follow some directions once in a while and not have to think the whole thing through myself, but then I get bored and have to go back to “my” thing soon. The BOMs take a while to finish but they are great when I feel like sewing but not designing.

The splendid sampler is the first time I’ve participated in any kind of quilt-a-long. I”m really enjoying it and I’ve learned to paper piece. I’d love to win the book because improving my FMQ skills is very important to me this year.

Thank you for the chance to win this book. Maybe it can give me enough confidence to really/seriously attempt to quilt by machine.

Yes I have participated in several BOM, BOQ, and Mystery Quilts. They give me a chance to learn more about designers not in my area, and incentive to get them done before too many of the next ones show up.

I love block of the month projects. Giving me a month to create (fabric changes, etc) a block is not a time crunch for me, less stress but still the incentive to get the block done.

I have to admit that I have never participated in a block of the month program. I prefer to make my own. But every year for the past 15 years, I have participated in some form in our small group’s round robin, which is sort of a block of the month. Each month I have someone else’s block, strip, or other project to do and sometimes it is quite a learning experience! Sometimes it’s fun; sometimes a hassle if I’m busy or about to travel. But isn’t a day spent quilting always better than a day spent working, just like that saying about salmon fishing! I live in Alaska. We have lots of great sayings.

I have done a couple of BOM quilts. It is always fun to see what comes next. Especially like when there is a new technique to try each month.

I’ve been making the majority of the blocks thus far and learned a few new tricks. I know that I now love Paper Piecing now that I’ve learned how to do it. Thank you U-Tube. Christa your block is in all three of my color combinations. Yes, I’m crazy enough to make the blocks in three different color combinations.

The important thing I’ve learned is, the Splendid Sampler isn’t a race and that you can make the blocks you choose as you choose to do them.
