Are you following along with The Splendid Sampler? If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s the most epic, “sew-lebrity” filled sew along (of all time), consisting of 100+ free block patterns, designed by 83 pattern designers, shared twice week, for an entire year!!!

Just a few of the 80+ Splendid Sampler designers at Spring Quilt Market 2016.
For those of you making blocks either physically with the group (or virtually in your head), the 50th block releases this week! Isn’t that exciting?? Although I’m not going to spoil tomorrow’s surprise, the designer of block #50 is Joanna Figueroa of Figtree Quilts. I’ve seen the block, and let me tell you – it is Splendid!!

My Splendid Block
You may recall my block, Scrappy Happy Heart, below, which was released back in May. Click here to learn more about my block! It’s been exciting watching so many people making my paper pieced block design and sharing their work. The biggest comment I’ve seen on Instagram (#scrappyhappyheart) and in the Splendid Sampler Facebook group is that my block is the perfect block for those who have never paper-pieced before and want to try out an easy block. That warms my heart!!

My Scrappy Happy Heart Block
To celebrate The Splendid Sampler halfway point, hosts Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson are teaming up with many of the Splendid Sampler designers with bonus blocks, fun giveaways, free patterns, and maybe even a little “behind the scenes” of the project.

Free Pattern for Splendid Friends
For anyone new to my blog, I invite you to get this free PDF quilt pattern of my Puzzle Box design just for stopping by and signing up for my email newsletter.

But wait…. there’s more!!

Book Giveaway for Splendid quilters
I’m also giving away a copy of the brand new collaboration book, 180 Doodle Quilting Designs. This book was compiled by Martingale/That Patchwork Place, the same folks who will be publishing The Splendid Sampler book once the blocks are all complete! (They have also published both of my quilting books, so I might just be a little bit biased!!)

180 Doodle Quilting features designs from several talented friends, including Splendid Sampler designers Melissa Corry, April Rosenthal, and yours truly! Perhaps this book will help you decide how you want to quilt your blocks when they are all finished!
For your chance to win, just leave a comment below letting me know if you’ve ever participated in a block of the month/week/day type program before. If so, tell me what you loved about it!
This contest is open to everyone worldwide. I’ll pick one US winner who will win a physical copy signed by me, and one international winner who will receive an e-copy.
The contest will close Aug 15th and I’ll ship it to you by the end of the month. Thanks for stopping by!!
I am doing the splendid sampler and loving it so much. It’s perfect for my short attention span.
I’m doing the splendid sampler and adding in some of my own blocks as well. I’m loving it. My attention span is short, so different blocks is just perfect for me!
I have participated in BOM’s before. Sometimes I finish along with Eberle else and sometimes I don’t. I love the anticipation of the new blocks, the community, and seeing how differently everybody does each block!
I have done a few BOM ,some complete others part way done. I am reallyt enjoying The Splendid Sampler.
I have never participated in BOM but will someday
Thank you for the free pattern and a chance to win your great book! Yes, I’ve participated in several bom/sal since 2012. I like how encouraging everyone is, and when blocks are shared on social media it keeps one going, even when goals aren’t always reached. Adjustments are welcomed and encouraged. Also seeing other’s work, is very uplifting.
I ordered a BOM from FQS a few years ago thinking it would be a good way for me to ease into quilting. Sadly, the parts are all still sitting in a plastic bin waiting for me to get to them!
This is the first BOM I’ve followed. I have only made two blocks (had two weddings this summer) but I’ve bought my fabric and have all the blocks downloaded and printed as well as I’m following along on the FB page to ‘steal’ other peoples’ ideas for color combinations. I really love the comradery of all the women (and men) who are sharing their blocks. It’s a nice feeling to be part of something so much bigger than yourself.
I have participated in the Civil War Chronicles BOM. I loved receiving the block each month and learning to do different blocks. I am still working on this quilt since it is so large!
Our guild has Block Party, similar to a BOM, but the blocks for each month that are made are collected and a name drawn to win the blocks. Other than that I’ve never participated in a BOM before.
I have never participated in a BOM program, but keep thinking I should!
I just finished my first block of the month project! I had a lot of fun with it,and I guess what I liked best was having a month to complete a new section of the quilt, and then looking forward to the next month’s new block!
I’ve done quite a few BOM and most are finished also, I love doing them because they frequently teach me new skills. Currently I’m doing one with my Guild right now that are very fussy paper pieced stars❤️
I have done a block of the month and I love seeing the different fabrics everybody uses!
I’ve started a BOM once and didn’t finish. I had to drive an hour once a month to get the pattern and it just got to be too much.
However, I am doing the Crossroads Quilt Along for March of Dimes right now and am quite up to date with it!!!
I have participated in BOMS. This is the first group that I feel is more work.
A LQS has sponsored BOMs that I have participated in. I love the PP heart block you designed. Thanks for your work.
I have never participated before in a block program like the wonderful Splendid Sampler. I did entered a star block for the Astronomical Quilts Challenge for the Houston Quilt Festival and it was so much fun to see everyone’s star blocks.
I’ve never done a BOM but I’d like to!
I have completed a few BOMs before – I loved doing your Modern Christmas Trees! I am also doing Project 48 & Cuppa with Sue Spargo.
I usually do 1-2 BOM’s a year. Especially if they are the type that I can use my stash. This Splendid Sampler has been the most fun I have had for some time. I am a bit behind but now that the king quilt has been finished for our senior center raffle, I plan on doing double duty and get more up to date. Thank you for your part in this great sampler BOM.
I am participating in a BOM in addition to this one. Thanks for the giveaway!
Haven’t tried one yet. I keep looking, just need to take the plunge. I love the idea of the mystery B.O.M. I also like the idea of trying techniques that are outside of your comfort zone. Learning is an ongoing process.
This is my first quilt along but I am learning so much and having so much fun with it that I know it won’t be my last!
I’ve done several BOMs – got started with them to learn how to quilt and was immediately in over my head. But I quickly found out how wonderful the community of quilters is – help and advice and encouragement helped me through the hard places. And I am still in love with quilt-making and quilting!
I have never participated in a BOM, however after joining The Splendid Sampler I diffently will participate in a BOM. Your book look really interesting, and thank you for the beautiful Paper Pieced Heart you designed for the Splendid Sampler. Thank you for the chance to win your book.
I did my first BOM last year, I’m doing 3 this year!! I learn lots doing them and the Splendid Sampler has certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone!
I haven’t done a BOM before but am relatively new to quilting. I love these blocks and have saved all of them. I don’t have much time to sew right now, usually only weekends when they aren’t too busy. I’m looking forward to retiring soon and having lots of time to finish the quilts I have going and getting all these wonderful blocks together. Thanks so much!
This is my first time participating in a quilt along. I’ve really enjoyed it, particularly seeing how others have interpreted the blocks to fit themes.
Yes I have done BOMs before. I love seeing all the different variations that come from different people.
This is the first time doing a BOM. I really only have time to sew on the weekend and some are just too busy. I’m looking forward to retirement and lots of time to quilt and sew dresses for my granddaughters! Love these blocks and can’t wait to get them done.
Do not participate in BOM programs because I have never been happy with fabric choices. I really love The Splendid Sampler because I choose the fabrics I want and I enjoy the unveiling of each new block. This is usually the middle of the night for me in Australia but I wake up just to check it out.
I loved your heart block because it looks complicated but was actually easy to do. An excellent first PP for us all.
I have not joined a BOM program since 1999. Lack of time seems to have been my biggest barrier and the large pile of WIP which did not need any additions.
Thanks for the chance to win this book
I have not done a block of the month/week. Sometimes I just do a random block for fun lol.I think is is because I like to make my own designs or modify an existing pattern to be my own. Block samplers are not my current thing either.
For me, doing block of the month quilts allows me to be able to better afford the price of completing a large quilt.
I have participated before. I like seeing how the blocks can look so different according to the fabric selections people make.
Thanks for your contributions to the Splendid sew along project! This is my very first experience in a sew along, and my what a journey it’s been so far!! Still keeping up with the weekly blocks and also all of the bonus blocks. I’ve so enjoyed this experience I joined a mini block of the month project that is for only 3 months and will be ending in August, and that too has turned out great and such a learning experience. Thanks so much for this challenge!
I like BOM programs because it helps me stay focused on a whole project that can seem intimidating. I also have a rather busy schedule so the BOM helps me accomplish a little each month with a BIG overall accomplishment. By the way, LOVE the doodle book. I feel very intimidated by machine quilting because I always seem to corner myself with free motion quilting. I can see this book getting me through and over that stumbling block!!! Thank you!
I’ve done many BOM’s at my local quilt shop and love doing blocks in different sizes.
I loved making the Scrappy Happy Heart with material by Joanne Figuero and Fig & Tree fabric. This is my first experience with a sew along. I decided to join based on an FB friend’s recommendation and because it fit a New Year’s resolution of finding a daily project that challenged me but was manageable. Thanks for your contribution.
I have your first two books. Can’t wait for your third! I bought a FMQ dot to dot practice book and it isn’t as good as I had hoped. Yours looks much better. Would love to win a copy of your 180 designs.
I have done several and I always enjoy seeing how others interpreted the pattern – especially on the Splendid Sampler. I almost need to wait to get ideas from others because of the many variations. Encouragement of others is always helpful, too.
This is my first quilt along ever…Having sewn for most of my life, I joined a local guild and have been quilting for about 1 1/2 yrs….and loving it ! ! ! Free motion is my next interest: The squares I have made include solids utilized specifically FOR free motion experimenting!!! To me, the solid fabrics are canvases inviting me to create!!! and winning the book would be icing on my quilting cake!!! —Happy Quilting! from Anita.
Like doing bom. Learn something new every month and can take my time doing the block. Thanks for the chance to win this book. Looks like it will be a great one to have.
I love the BOM but I do find that I sometimes get behindwhen I attack too many at once
The Splendid Sampler is my first BOM.
First time I have done something like this. Love the variety of styles in this adventure.
I’ve not participated in a BOM. But, I have started a Quilt challenge that Pat Sloan is going to give details to soon. It’s a scrap busting challenge for the Courthouse Steps. I can wait to show off my quilt top. Almost completed. I just could wait until the official date!
I have participate in many BOM at my local quilt store, and now I am even trying one online. However, as much as I Like them I am sometimes find myself presure by it, and behind schedule to complete the assignment. Now I am seriously thinking to let them go and use my time to develop my own creations. BOM have been for me a learning curve. I loved that I learned a lot from it.
I haven’t participated in any BOMs mainly because I don’t want to add to my UFO pile.
I love BOM’s, The excitement of receiving a new block each month is so much fun. I am in several at the moment.
