A Splendid Celebration!

Are you following along with The Splendid Sampler? If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s the most epic, “sew-lebrity” filled sew along (of all time), consisting of 100+ free block patterns, designed by 83 pattern designers, shared twice week, for an entire year!!!

Silly_Designers

Just a few of the 80+ Splendid Sampler designers at Spring Quilt Market 2016.

For those of you making blocks either physically with the group (or virtually in your head), the 50th block releases this week! Isn’t that exciting?? Although I’m not going to spoil tomorrow’s surprise, the designer of block #50 is Joanna Figueroa of Figtree Quilts. I’ve seen the block, and let me tell you – it is Splendid!!

My Splendid Block

You may recall my block, Scrappy Happy Heart, below, which was released back in May. Click here to learn more about my block! It’s been exciting watching so many people making my paper pieced block design and sharing their work. The biggest comment I’ve seen on Instagram (#scrappyhappyheart) and in the Splendid Sampler Facebook group is that my block is the perfect block for those who have never paper-pieced before and want to try out an easy block. That warms my heart!!

To celebrate The Splendid Sampler halfway point, hosts Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson are teaming up with many of the Splendid Sampler designers with bonus blocks, fun giveaways, free patterns, and maybe even a little “behind the scenes” of the project.

Free Pattern for Splendid Friends

For anyone new to my blog, I invite you to get this free PDF quilt pattern of my Puzzle Box design just for stopping by and signing up for my email newsletter.

But wait…. there’s more!!

Book Giveaway for Splendid quilters

I’m also giving away a copy of the brand new collaboration book, 180 Doodle Quilting Designs. This book was compiled by Martingale/That Patchwork Place, the same folks who will be publishing The Splendid Sampler book once the blocks are all complete! (They have also published both of my quilting books, so I might just be a little bit biased!!)

b1381_cover

180 Doodle Quilting features designs from several talented friends, including Splendid Sampler designers Melissa Corry, April Rosenthal, and yours truly! Perhaps this book will help you decide how you want to quilt your blocks when they are all finished!

For your chance to win, just leave a comment below letting me know if you’ve ever participated in a block of the month/week/day type program before. If so, tell me what you loved about it!

This contest is open to everyone worldwide. I’ll pick one US winner who will win a physical copy signed by me, and one international winner who will receive an e-copy.

The contest will close Aug 15th and I’ll ship it to you by the end of the month. Thanks for stopping by!!

I have done online sewalongs and mysteries but the only BOD I have done was with Temecula Quilt Company. We made a 2 inch basket block every day for a month. It is one of my favorite mini quilts ever!

I love BOM’S. I have really liked this one because of the sharing of ideas and learning new techniques. Thanks so much for your gifts to us as well as the inspiration you have given me.

First let me say that your heart block is one of my favorites and also one that I would consider making a large quilt of all heart blocks. This is my second BOM and more fun then I could have imagined. Sunday and Thursday are the best days of the week !

This is my first BOM and I am loving it! Especially being able to do it alongside so many talented and friendly people!

My first bom experience was the 2012 BOM on craftsy with Amy Gibson… I just finished the top (well, except that I want to add another border or two to it) in October of this past year. I really liked (and sometimes I didn’t exactly like) the different techniques used every month. It gave me exposure to new things. Some I thought I would love and I really didn’t and others I thought would be so hard and they weren’t. This year I am doing 2 of Pat’s projects and one other. It is a bit much while working full time, but the time I spend in my sewing room brings me joy and I am doing more and more of it. The other night my husband looked at one of my blocks and said, “your corners have really improved!” I’m glad that he has noticed! 🙂

I have never partisapated in BOM or any other quilt along as I have just started to get into quilting. Thanks for the chance to win this gift.

This my first quilt along. I’m a new quilter. Splendid Sampler has been a great opportunity for me to learn new techniques. It’s been great. My confidence has skyrocketed!
Thnx for the organizers and designers

I have been following along and plan to make some of the blocks this coming week. Christmas is right around the corner and I have eight adult children and sixteen grandchildren…oh my where do I start ? I would cherish this book and would use it in designing some useful quilted gifts. Pillows or table runners….? Fancy pillow cases or lap quilts….soooo many ideas…..

I did Pat Sloan’s BOM last year and am doing it again this year, along with the Splendid Sampler. My friend and I are doing our own BOM; we each make a block of our choosing each month to trade…actually we make two of the same pattern, but of different fabrics…one to keep and one to trade. By the end of the year we will each have 24 blocks (12 we made and 12 the other made) and it’ll be fun to see how we each decide to arrange them all together into a quilt!

The Splendid Sampler is the first BOM type of group I’ve participated in. I joined to learn new skills and refine what little I had. I’m learning so much! The book you’re giving away looks amazing. Figuring out how to quilt the quilt is my biggest struggle and I’m always looking for new inspiration.

This is my very first block of the month!! I am enjoying all of the techniques and look forward to increasing my skills. Thank you so much for the opportiunity.

I have been doing a Saturday Sampler with my LQS for years and I have also participated in many online BOMs. It is nice to have a quilt top finished at the end of the year. I have done a block of the day and that is definitely not for me. It is too intense. I really prefer QALs. I prefer the pace of construction. I now have more than 50 completed quilt tops that have not yet been quilted, so I would very much enjoy a copy of the doodle designs. I could really put it to work in my quilt tops.

I have been a part of a number of Block of the month programs. I like that it is a manageable way to do a quilt. Most of the ones I have done have been kitted with fabric which is good as you don’t end up with heaps of fabric leftovers. Thanks for the chance to win. May help with finishing this wonderful project

I like the anticipation that waiting for the blocks brings. I am currently doing a block of the day and block of the month.

    Hi Christa! Pick me 😉
I had never done a BOM or sew along before this year, but I started 3 this year which have kept me quite busy. Besides The Splendid Sampler I’m doing Farm Girl Vintage and a medallion quilt with Art Gallery Fabrics BOM. I love working on different projects a little at time and never getting bored or frustrated with one thing.

I have participated and I love seeing what everyone does, even if I can’t keep up. The end products are always wonderful, and I am proud of the quilts I have completed through BOMs.

I’ve never participated in a BOM. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t end up finishing one if I started it. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

I enjoy participating in QAL and BOM. I like sewing with others and seeing different fabric choices and embellishments.

I did the quilt along with the Crafty Gemini back in 2013…this was a taste of quilting for me after 30 odd years.
I made my first quilt when i was 16, a English Paper pieced Hexigon quilt that I still have to this day. It is in need of a few repairs from all the love that it has received over the years from children and pets but still gives a good warm hug when needed.
I just love doing quilt alongs that challenge me in learning new techniques and renewing old ones.

My quilting journey began with Amy Gibson Craftsy BOM and I have been hooked ever since. I was so surprised and excited to actually keep going to finish the piecing and then I also signed up to Leah Day free motion quilting class to quilt the top. I cannot tell you how proud I was to post my finished quilt on Craftsy and to show it to family and friends. I’ve since signed up to another BOM class and have made a quilt for my grandson and just finished one for my son and our new daughter in law. I have met some wonderful new friends through quilting and it is such a wonderful new hobby. Thank you to all the designers and bloggers for the time taken to support and encourage “newbies” like me. Books look wonderful

Hi! Thank you for the chance to win your beautiful book. I am relatively new to BOM quilts but what I really love about this BOM is the friendship it gives, connecting quilters throughout the World…. that is awesome!

I have participated in many BOMs through the years, and find them much fun. The first one I participated in was Farmers Market by Pat Sloan. Maybe about 2006 or 2007?

I’ve started several BOM’s and have kept up with the patterns of many of the BOM’s but LIFE always seems to get in the way and I never seem to be able to actually finish them in the amount of time it takes to finish them. You would think that a year would be plenty of time to finish something. The problem is we get involved in so many of them that we can’t keep up with all of them plus Life too. But I do love them.

I have participated in BOM, but am more comfortable working at my own speed, not liking the pressure to keep up. Would love to have the book you are offering. I need more practice with FMQ.

I just started quilting this year, though
I’ve been seeing for 8 years, so this is my first block of the a anything quilt. I love it! But I wish the whole hing was piecing or paper piecing- I’ve learned that I love those best.

I’ve not done a BOM, but I’ve done a couple of online quilt-alongs. I recently finished 2 quilt tops for my kids from a Minecraft quilt-along, and a Star Wars quilt-along. 🙂

I have on several occasions over the years. It can be fun because you only devote a small amount of time each week. Honestly though it’s not my personality. I like to finish things even if it takes weeks.

I love BOMs – they are such fun ! the part I love the most is seeing what everyone else does with the same pattern – just like what’s happening with The Splendid Sampler 🙂 thanks for the pattern and the chance to win the book !

  32. Beth T. says:

I did participate in a block of the month by mail as one of my first quilting projects. I discovered that the patterns weren’t really written for beginners–they said things like, “Now, appliqué the heart in your favorite manner” which was not too helpful to me back then. But what I liked was the way it gave me a quilt “in doses” and showed me the excitement of seeing it come together–I could watch it progress, block by block, which isn’t the way it works when you cut all your strips at once and then chain piece. That’s more efficient, but the bom way hooked me!

My first block sew along is The Farmer’s Wife and this Splendid Sampler is my second. I just can’t seem to keep current with the blocks. I love to see all the blocks made by others in the program, some people are so darn creative. The Doodle Quilt Design book looks fun – thanks for this giveaway.

I started with Sew and Stitch Magazine Seaside quilt that came out weekly and is almost finished with it and I absolutely loved it – all the different fabrics, techniques and the vibrant colours. Every time I got one block finished putting it up on my board was a small victory and when the pieces started to get sewn together – wow! It is amazing doing it this way than starting a whole quilt design – literally eating the elephant bite by bite😉 Loved your block!! ( even though just studied and made plans for it )

I only started quilting this year and I am doing the Splendid Sampler, Jacquelynne Steves First Dance block of the month and Art Quilt Designs beginner block of the month for foundation piecing. I am loving them all. I have also been following Barbara Brackman’s hexagon block of the month which I will do in the future when I have finished some of what I am already doing.

This is my first time participating in a block of the month or in this case, twice a week. It seems like this would provide an incentive to get them done. However, I have 0 blocks completed in this one. One of these days, I will have the time and they are waiting for me when I am ready.
