Love Your Creative Space Blog Tour with Lilo Bowman

Today I’m excited to tell you about a fabulous new book, from my friend Lilo Bowman.

Lilo Bowman

Lilo Bowman

Love Your Creative Space: A Visual Guide to Creating an Inspiring & Organized Studio Without Breaking the Bank is Lilo’s new title from C&T Publishing. It’s full of ideas, solutions, and creative ways to set aside and love your personal space for making.

So backing up a little, I first met Lilo when I was a guest on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. She’s used to working behind the scenes as a producer for the show but now I’m excited for her to be the star of the show with her new book and blog tour.

The Quilt Show Set

Lilo helped keep me organized and ready to roll on filming day!

Love Your Creative Space is divided into My Stuff (we all have it!), My Space (tiny or large) and My System. It addresses the common needs of needlecrafters, but also covers many less common topics.
Love Your Creative Space
For example, how do you stay organized when you head out for a class or a retreat? How can or should your space be altered when life itself changes because of a move, an illness or just getting older? There are many ideas and suggestions, along with questions to help you analyze your own stuff, space and system.

I especially enjoyed the gallery of artist studios. One space has been adapted for its owner’s special needs after a stroke left her with partial paralysis. One space is especially compact. A third artist requires both dry and wet work spaces!

If you work in more than one medium, you’ll find ideas to organize, separate and combine your supplies. The book’s photography might even inspire you to try something new!

Love Your Creative Space

This book recognizes that budgets for creative spaces come in all sizes, and Lilo gives helpful advice for saving, economizing and reimagining or repurposing. It’s clear that she wants makers to love and enjoy their spaces regardless of the size or financial constraints. That’s a win!

I recently purchased an used Koala Outback sewing station (in excellent condition), and this has allowed me to organizing my sewing area. Now I need to address “The Quilt Book Library” and the fabric scraps. I find that I am MUCH more productive if my surrounding environment is clean and not cluttered. Thanks for the opportunity to win the e-book!

I’m always trying to arrange my creative space. Part of the problem is I do have several interests. I moved a few years ago from having a space 23×27 to a space about 15×15. I am overwhelmed.

We’re planning to move in the next 6 months or so. Right now I have a 14’x14′ sewing room. I’ll be keeping this house but moving to a smaller sewing room in the new house. Figuring out what to move and what to keep here is a little daunting so this giveaway is right up my aisle right now!

Right now I have a room approx. 14×14′. We’re planning a move to FL which will be our primary home but keeping the one we have now. My new space will probably be about 11×11′ but with a closet. I’m trying to figure out what will move and what will stay. It’s a little daunting but I’ll figure it out. Thanks for the giveaway.

My room has two sections of built-in book shelves filled with my husband’s collection of old books. I’d love to remove the books so I could use the shelves and I really wish I had room for a design wall, but there are too many windows. Oh, and there’s all that fabric hanging around.😊

Right now the biggest issue I’m having is that my fabric has gotten disorganized because it has overtaken its allotted space. So either I have to find more space, or reorganize and possibly recycle some things to someone else.

We are planning a big move in the next few years. I would like ideas on studio space for hte new house we will buy. I am a quilter with a longarm machine. Thank you in advance for the opportunity to win your book!!!

About 2 years ago my sewing space got a big upgrade when I got a cutting table. How did I live without it for so long? I struggle with the newly created space UNDER the table, though. It has become a catch-all mess. I need some help working on that.

I have a large second bedroom for my quilting room. The closets are not large but I would like a system for utilizing them better. I’m also trying to figure out how to grow my stash and organize it in such a way that it doesn’t overwhelm the room. I need to buy storage but I’m not sure what to order or buy.

I share a space with my daughter. I am a quilter and all things fiber, she is a vinyl cutter and a second grade teacher so she has lots of crafts!! I am afraid I take up most of the room and it is her house. I would like to de-clutter (quilters have ALL the tools) and organize so I am not moving one pile to another place just to work on any one project!!!

I moved last year into a new home with my own dedicated area, but everything is just kind of jumbled together. I have trouble keeping track of what’s where – still looking for some items a year later. This book looks inspiring.

I have enough space, but I need to completely reorganize and rearrange everything to make better use of the space.

I have a new very large (600+ square feet) studio in our new moutain home…but it still looks kinda junky because it also houses my beads/yarn/paints too. Would love to learn how to get it all to look inviting. Sounds like I need this book! Lilo is great…met her while attending The Quilt Show tapings in Denver.

I HAVE A SMALL 8 X10 ROOM FOR MY SEWING ROOM. BOY IS IT A DISASTER! I need a redo on design and layout. I would love to win this book to help me know where to begin, Thank you for your generosity!

I had a small sewing room but had to give it up. Now because of covid, things have changed once again. I now have a corner in our bedroom which I do most of my sewing. I am constantly rearranging it. I hope to a my sewing room back in the near future.

This is the year I want to get my sewing space totally organized. I’ve done it in short bursts, but I’ve never redone the whole thing and I think that’s what I have to do. Would love to receive a copy of this book and would be will to pay for shipping to Canada if I win.
    Thanks,
    Fauntie

We live in a house with a five room apartment in the walkout basement. Years ago we decided not to rent the apartment any longer, so I have claimed it for my sewing area and it works great. I can leave things as they are being worked and not worry about clearing the mess away. This is both a blessing and a curse. It does get disorganized and overrun with working projects. Fabric storages ideas are of interest to me.

I currently quilt in a corner of a semi-converted garage. I need ideas to be more organized and ways to finish the conversion (began by the previous owners) that works for the whole family.

I have a sewing room AND a quilting room. I was organized once – then more and more ‘stuff’ came in … I’m in a mess. Time to clean up and start over. Ideas from your book will be a super help, I’m sure!

My sewing space is a game room in our home. It’s very large but there isn’t any closet space or a door to close off the mess! Yikes. I have a wall unit that I designed from the Container Store, but I’m not especially happy with its functionality. Always looking for ideas!

I know i have way too much stuff for my seeing room. There is a long arm in there so it takes up lots of room. This book seems like it would help in focusing and letting go what is really not needed. Thanks gir the chance!

I have a wonderful space. However, I had a huge table/cabinet made years ago and it’s just too big for the room and though on wheels, it’s too heavy to move often. Would love to have a smaller one that could allow more room function but it’s almost too big to get rid of. First world problems….I’m learning to be content. 🙂 I’m eager to read new suggestions in this lovely new book!

I am at a crossroads where we may be moving or if we stay here I will be moving my craft room to a smaller room and also have my office there for working from home for who knows how long. I can use tips for moving my stash, crafts room. Also any organizing on a small budget so it doesn’t end up looking like something exploded and I can’t find anything.

My twin sister & I share our quilting room ( walk-out basement) of our condo. We have a “stash room” which houses our fabric stash organized by color, collections, etc. We are always looking for unique ways to store & display our traditional quilts!!

I Love my studio space, however, I would like to have a table for cutting and planning that has the shelves and open cubbies underneath. I currently have the fold out type table and the underneath is only somewhat usable and hard to keep neat and organized.

I use a bedroom and have installed a wall of cabinets for storage. What I would like ideas on is efficiency and ergonomic workspace. As I get older so do my wrists and elbows. I am sure I don’t have things set up the best way possible.

It seems I am not the only one planning to add a long arm to my “studio” which if my husband would only let me have the living room, would fit beautifully! So for now, I may need to be set up in multiple rooms – long arm in the basement, my sewing space in the attic space above the garage. Lots of steps in between for my exercise.

I’m in the process of taking a front room into my sewing and scrapbooking space. It is a fairly large room but want everything to work together so I can be more efficient.

  35. Debbie Morse says:

I have 2 rooms upstairs & part of my basement dedicated to quilting & fabric storage. Before my husband passed last year he always helped me organize with shelves, etc. Now I need to downsize as I am not sure how long I can be in a two story home as I fell down stairs last year carrying my sewing supplies upstairs after a sew date away from home. It is so hard to part with my collections & projects that I know I will complete someday.

I have plenty of room and plenty of “stuff”….but no idea how to organize for the best use of either, not to mention my time. Unlike a lot of sewers and crafters I have the use of 3 rooms (former bedrooms –my children are grown) for my sewing and quilting supplies. Like things are not together, I run from one room to the next to sew, then to iron…then go outside to another room to quilt. Help!

  38. Maureen D says:

I currently have projects and supplies stored all over my house. I would like to bring them all together into one room so that I know what I have and I can get straight to work instead of trying to spend a lot of time finding things. I also have a limited budget and some special needs. I’m excited to see what I can do from being inspired by this book.

I have small bedroom turned sewing room. I am now on my third try setting up area. Each time I have sat down to sew and figuration did not work so changed and tried again – still failure. I believe the book would be very helpful in planning so can enjoy my sewing days instead of moving days.

My long arm and my sewing room are in former bedrooms at opposite ends of the lower level of our home. If I could combine them in a larger space I’d need fewer duplicate tools.

I need an organization system that lasts and does not need to be recreated with each project. I have a nice space (20×15), but I can’t figure out how to organize effectively.

So looking forward to the ideas. We moved into this townhouse 3 years ago and I have a small bedroom designated as my sewing space but I am having trouble setting it set up to really promote creativity.
