Original Design Idea – Modern Dresden
This my contemporary interpretation of a Dresden Plate block.
I started with the idea of “plates” or “wedges” radiating out from a center. But instead of classic curves, I wanted to keep my design straight and angular. So I played around with lines and angles in EQ and this is what I came up with.
And just for the fun of it, here’s the same design in purple. It really sparkles by using lighter hues of the same color at the edges of the blocks.
I couldn’t find the EQ7 file on this page…am I missing it? Thank you
Linda

It isn’t there for the Deco Dresdens. I found all the other EQ7 files but not for Deco Dresdens. Thank you.
These are beautiful. Thanks for sharing..
This is georgious
This is a wonderful design! I love designing my own blocks, and rarely use anyone else’s unless I tweak it somehow to make it “mine”. I want to do yours exactly as is – there is nothing I could add to make it better! I can hardly wait!
I love this block! I have printed it and going to choose my colours now! Thank you for sharing. I’ll definitely give you credit for the pattern as I’m sure many will want to know where to get it.
When some one searches for his required thing,
thus he/she needs to be available that in detail, so that thing is maintained over here.
How can a person not love it. I appreciate you sharing your design. Absolutely gorgeous.
thanx
Is so beautiful.Love the colors .LOVE IT .LOVE IT…Thanks for sharing..
Thinking of enlarging the pattern and using a variety of Christmas fabrics for a holiday quilt.
This is so beautiful. I love the updated look. I will be creating this for some of my grands for the holidays. Thank you for sharing.
Great Idea! I have been working on Christmas lap quilts since March to give as gifts to family members, and have a goos sized stash of lovely Christmas fabric to work on this with. This is so beautiful and I think I want to incorporate some metallics in it. I am also thinking of perhaps enlarging in to make a wall hanging or two. This patterns offers so much versatility and endless possibilities for themes. Thanks so much for sharing this Christa, so appreciated. A tutorial would be very nice
Will the overall size of this block be 12 1/2″, for a 12″ finished unit? Or 12″ for an 11 1/2″ finished unit? Because of the inconsistency in pattern verbage, I get confused. Beautiful pattern, BTW! Thanks!
It’s a 12″ finished block when you complete all 4 units.
Imagine it with varying color wheeels
Great block! I’m with Pam. Can you post the EQ file?
Good news – I’ve added and EQ file link to this post!
Thanks so much for this! I am sharing it on my blog today as I challenge myself to clear out my ever-growing stash this year! http://thebeachyquilter.wordpress.com/
I just love your modern Dresden block. I note that you drew it EQ 7. Is it possible to get a copy of the EQ file. I want to make the block smaller and I’m having difficulty drawing it.
Thank you.

Looks like an interesting block to try.
Interesting block for sure. Love to try something new and different. On my “to do” list for the holidays.
Quite a nice block! With this pattern and good color choices and placement this would be a stunning quilt…..
I love this block and what would happen if you just paper pieced the plate and appliqued it to the black? Or better yet take each part to the plate and had sew and then applique. I just may try all of it.
Directions would be nice so we can get started
I will definitely come up with a more complete tutorial so watch my blog for updates!
I’ll keep an eye open as I really am trying to learn paper piecing and more instruction would be better for me! THANKS
I love this block!!
Thinking of enlarging it to make the center of a medallion quilt.
Beautiful!!! Makes me want to start quilting again!!
Beautiful! Great designing, thanks so much for sharing this pattern. Can’t wait to get into my stash and see what colors I can make this block.
I love it but how do you do the piecing? I printed off the paper pattern and can’t figure out how to start and what to do. HELP!!!!!

Thanks! I would refer you to some online tutorials or youtube for basic paper piecing instructions. Just google “paper piecing tutorial” and you will find a bazillion of them, LOL! Then apply those same techniques to the block. This gives me an idea – I will work up a tutorial on how to make the block later…. so stay tuned!
I really love the design of this Dresden block. The colors that can make it pop are going to be fun.! Thank you.
What a beautiful pattern and I can’t believe I missed it! Just saw it on 19 Paper Piecing Quilt Patterns at FaveQuilts.
I love this block! Gonna try it for sure. 🙂
That is quite a stunning block!
